Few questions about Johnson Valley
« on: June 15, 2009, 05:12:29 AM »
I have always heard the name due to it possibly going away and becoming a part of the base in 29 but I have never been. Now it seem I am about to buy a house about 15 - 20 miles away from it. What is the place geared to? Would you say more ATV/buggy dunes or rock crawling/trails? Both?

Johnson Valley has alot of different types of desert terrain. Easy graded roads to some of the nastiest rockcrawing in the U.S.

I've got subscriptions to several Offroad magazines and most of them features articles or events happening there quite frequently.  It is a desert/mountainous region with lots of rockcrawling, abandoned mines, a few river crossings.  It is a very isolated place with many miles between towns and seeing civilization.

All type of terrain like they said above. Google the new King of the Hammers DVD preview and you can see it varies from high speed dirt roads to serious rock crawling.

You'll also be a quick shot up the mountain to the Big Bear area.
