I would not mount a ham radio in the center console, they are much more power(heat) hungry than a CB radio and need fresh air, hence the fan.  There is lots o space under the passenger seat, 4 bolts and a few plugs to remove.

Thanks for all the input Guys!  It really helps!  ;D

Knightrider -  we plan to run the Ham power and ground directly to the battery.  But can we run it thru the BlueSea in the cabin instead? Inquiring minds want to know..

of course you can, just make sure you have the proper size fuse, whatever the radio came with is the proper size :)

Any ideas as to what this is and can we just rip it out?  ???

Edit:  I think someone blew chunks in this vehicle at one point.... :-X

2nd Edit:  I think this has to do with our suckin' Bluetooth.....  guess it's going in the middle console.... ::)

Yeah, Danny/Toro talked us off the "crazy" ledge.  I think we are mounting it in the same spot.  Kinda worried about passenger in back kicking it tho.

Yea I worried about that, then I realized I never have the rear seats up, let alone have the seat bottoms in the xterra.

It's honestly not that bad, I would flip it so the antenna connection is towards the front, and the power is towards the rear, then even if someone does kick it, they won't hurt nothing but their toe.

Haha!  Yeah, our back seats aren't seeing much action!  And we did flip it as you described.  Thanks!!  ;D

I might not be the most techie savvy guy around here, I'll concede to that. In my opinion keeping things simple is the way to go. Something I learned in the Military because when things break down it takes just that much more effort to get everything back up and running. The radio systems I've installed and had help installing are basic and I like to keep them that way. I also have a back up to those systems which is a handheld and a way to keep it up and running. Lots of really great info here on these boards with some super knowledgeable folks!
