Title: Winch Solenoid Location
Post by: G.B.H. on December 15, 2018, 03:10:32 PM
Finally got my Hefty front bumper. I also got a Warn VR 8s winch to go with it. The solenoid needs to be remotely mounted. I'm looking for location ideas for the solenoid. Anyone out there running this setup that can tell me what they did? This is my first winch so any suggestions or comments are welcome.

Most folks run the extended wiring kits and mount the solenoid box on top of the factory fuse box under the hood (passenger side, not too far behind the battery).

I am running a Hefty aluminum front bumper with the Smittybilt X20 10k winch. The solenoid box sandwiched perfectly between the far end of the winch and the side of the bumper (the inside "winch box" area), so I just smashed it in there and left it alone. I can still access the switch to flip it from wireless to wired, and can still access the plug on the box to plug in the remote if the wireless function stops working.

edit: take a look at the 3rd or 4th image in this post, and you'll see how I did it: https://www.sccxterra.com/smf/index.php?topic=2455.msg49995#msg49995

The solenoid for the Warn is too big to sandwich in on the same side that you did yours. I can get it in on the other side but not with the remote plug being accessible. I'll look at the fuse box location you mentioned but I would really like to keep the solenoid in the bumper. Thanks for your input. I enjoyed the pictures of the install. I was thinking of doing the same thing with the jack to lift the bumper up and into place.
