Title: Anza Borrego Blair Valley - 2/21/09
Post by: FrankB on February 21, 2009, 09:29:23 PM
Thank you to everyone who showed up today. We had a nice time hiking and exploring in Blair Valley, Anza Borrego Desert State Park.  The weather was perfect for hiking.  Besides Heather and myself, it was Dan (who drove 4 hours to get there); Paul, Noon & Trixie the Wonderdog, along with Jeff, Don & Denise, Lance and his son Erik, and Mitch and the boys.

We started out with Paul playing in a mud puddle.

First stop was the hiking trail to the top of Ghost Mountain, to the remains of the Marshal South home site. The views from the trail up are great.

The old adobe structure is wearing away.

What time is it?

Dan doing his best to imitate the Marshal South picture he saw in the run thread (thankfully, with his clothes on).

Even though Dan was fully clothed Mitch still had quite a reaction. Or maybe he's auditioning for an opera.

Heading back down the trail from Ghost Mountain.

Lunch was good.

Time to roll to the next hiking trail.

Along the Mortero Hiking Trail.

The last hike of the day was to Pictograph Rock. It's an easy one-mile trail with about a 400' elevation gain.

Here's MItch translating the pictographs for us. Who knew that he could be so knowledgeable?

On our way out through Little Blair Valley Paul found another mud puddle to play in, this time alongside the now very green dry lake bed.

Late afternoon in Little Blair Valley.

Great pictures Frank.  I found Dan's tribute to Marshal South very moving..

but not a moving as John's tribute last year.
