Hey folks!
We're starting a new thread for those of us camping for CANVAZ V.
I'll be arriving in Big Bear some time Thursday afternoon and staying Thurs/Fri/Sat night.
One of the campgrounds suggested is http://bigbear.us/serranocampgrounds.html and that's where we stayed for CANVAZ II.
As it turns out, a majority of us have gotten sites here:
http://www.reserveamerica.com/camping/hanna-flat/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NRSO&parkId=70532
If you want to camp, please post up like this:
member / #of rigs / #of attendees
xxSVxx 1 1 person
Celt 2 6 people
JFanaselle 1 2 people
JRat 1 2 person
RB DUFFER 1 2 people
Alex 1 1 person
jvr 1 1 person
Sage Bromax 1 1 person
Toro 1 1 legend
AZXC 2 2 people
TOTAL SO FAR: 13 rigs / 19 peeps / 1 legend
Please post in this thread so we can get a head count of how many are camping and what our approximate numbers will be; last time one man made reservations for the whole group, but with the timing of this thread, I am going to lean towards letting everyone make their own.
If you have any questions about camping, feel free to post up in this thread or PM me.
Looking forward to seeing you up in them mountains!!!

2 trucks, 6 people........
I'd like to reserve my spot pretty soon, since you want each of us to do it ourselves (Good idea) is there a general area you are talking about so were in the same vicinity? I just looked up Serrano Campground on the website. Looks like it is all full with no vacancies. Hanna Flat campground seems to have vacancies and is in a nice place, Plan B?

We camped there on Mother's Day this year - in the snow! It is a nice campground with good access to the trails. We were in site #57. It was up higher than the others, but you had to carry everything up to the campsite from where you parked. I am going for #60 this time. I can back right into it to unload.
-
My buddy reserved a campsite there for us but not sure which one. I figure to show up sometime late morning very early afternoon on Saturday then get up for the run on Sunday and head back down to the grind.
-
Changed my mind about driving up the hill, so I just booked a campsite. Camping details for my group:
Hanna Flat, site # 61 (right next to Sage Bromax and xxSVxx)
Friday night (9th) and Saturday night (10th)
4 adults, two vehicles (my Xterra and my cousin's F-150)
I won't be able to arrive until about 9:00 pm on Friday night, (stupid work, always getting in the way!), but my cousin will show up about 6:00 pm and set up camp. I'll have to head back down the hill Sunday afternoon to pick my kid up, so we'll break camp Sunday morning and make a short trail run before departing. Won't be able to participate in any Monday activities, unfortunately.

Make sure you don't put any cheap beer in your cooler you should leave out because I hear the raiding "Bears" only like good beer. In fact I hear they prefer Lagunitas Hop Stoopid....
My camp on the other hand is very stealth-like to prevent raiding bears from stickin their big noses into my cooler.
See you guys out there!!
-
Haha, remember... I only drink the cheap stuff! Bud Light for me. :) The good news is, if the bears want a bunch, it's super cheap and I can bring them an entire 36 pack if they want. ;D

Jayrat 1 Rig 1 person

I just reserved #56, 1 rig/1 person for myself: Toro, you're welcome to join on the campsite, but I only have it for Friday night so far since I have to be down the mountain by Saturday night.

Hey RBduffer thank you for the campground space I do want the space I'll pay you went I get there on Friday probably going to get there late because I got to work on Friday
-
jvr, you're in!
Alex, thanks for posting up the map, that helps a lot.
I just toured the campground yesterday with PainRoler and SdcaKLR and it's a cool corner that we will dominate (simi-quietly) ;)
It looks like site #60 will be party central (sorry Christiaan) cuz it's big and away from other folks.
The trail in and out is an easy drive from Fawnskin, and I found a secret trail for the more adventurous ;)
-
It currently looks like we have 5 rigs attending, I will work to get final numbers this week.

I am flying solo so there will be room at site 60 for another rig, or lots of partying.

That's going to be a welcome relief from the 85/90+ range we have had over the last several weeks.
-
That sounds great!

cross referenced this thread to AZXC and TNX...8 days out!!!!

As we can't have a fire , we need lots "o" glowsticks

As we can't have a fire , we need lots "o" glowsticks
I was gonna bring about 8-10 big candles and light them in the fire pit of our camping spot.

I have one question
Can we bring dogs
-
As long as they don't bite people :)

According to San Bernadino National Forest Rules
They must be on a lease at all times, Hanna Flats is a family campground

We had our dogs there in May. No problems, but they are required to be leashed.

Do your dogs bark at night?

I have been known to bark at the moon on occasion.

considering the pot-luck menu, I'm going to expect a herd of barking spiders to show up...

It's a good thing there aren't any campfires allowed, this could pose an issue or an awesome sky show!

Sadly it looks like just 2 rigs coming up from AZ. We will be at site 52, unfortunately 55 only allows one vehicle and i didn't know how strict they are on rules like that. Either way we will be hauling some chairs and beers down to the party.
-
It's a short haul, no big deal. So glad that you got a spot and are comming ;D

I'm pretty sure there will be room at someone's campsite for the additional vehicle.
-
I'll be at 56 Friday night with only one truck, someone else is welcome to park their truck for the night if needed.
-
Just an FYI, Hana Flats has overflow parking by the entrance. I think it's $5.

SOOOOOO.....I won't really be available to curate this thread after tonight....so, any last minute changes that need to be made, or additions/subtractions....post them and we'll do our best to update the OP w/ the #'s, etc.
Since I have your attention....please, indulge me...

I'm shooting for 2-3pm and will be monitoring the repeater on Ham. I will swing by camp to see what's up, drop of crap and play it by ear.

My wife and I will arrive at space 61 between 8:00 and 9:00 pm. We'll miss dinner but I'm looking forward to an evening of fun. I am expecting Randy to thoroughly entertain us all, which will be challenging without a camp fire. ;D
-
WiIl be rolling in about noon on friday. I'll have beer and a hammock so there will be at least 1 nap taken.

Nilda traded in my Fire ring for a Wedding ring ::) I'm sure one of the younger campers will step up ;D
Really looking forward to this! Thanks to all you guys ;)

Bad news guys - my employer had a change of plans on my behalf and I won't be able to make it up Friday night after all. After discussing things with my wife, we decided it didn't really make sense to camp Saturday night only. We were already going to have to leave Sunday after waking up, so if you think about it, we would have setup camp Saturday evening after the trail run just to break camp Sunday morning and head home. Since there aren't any Saturday night plans at the campground, this really didn't make sense.
So my camping reservation has been cancelled and site # 61 is available if anyone needs to reserve a spot (it's right next to Friday night's festivities). We'll still attend the Saturday green run, and will meet up with everyone at Vons at 0900.
Steve C - I'm really sorry man, I know I told you that you could crash at our site. Hopefully someone else has room or maybe you can book site #61 for Saturday night only.
-
Well that really stinks man, it's too bad you won't be up there as long as you wanted.
-
I expect to be in camp with a cold beer in hand by 5 p.m. Site #60 - party central
-
Employers suck >:(
What to do with all the extra beer ???
We'll see ya Saturday Joe 8)
Steve C: Still no worries ;)
-
I'm hoping to leave Friday morning around 10 or 11 so I'll be there around beer:30pm so thank you guys for inviting me even know its a long drive I'm sure it will be worth it can't wait to meet you all and make a long time friendship
-
I'm at site 58
We should have a whole little community in the corner of the campground.
Cell is posted somewhere if you want to get a hold of me, but no reception up at the site at all....
See you guys soon!
-
Rollin out right now. See you in a couple.
-
Safe travels everyone
