Title: Hello from San Gabriel
Post by: richie on July 27, 2017, 06:58:08 PM
Hello SCCX,

Im new to the Xterra and very eager to start adventuring with it.

Currently i have a 07 xterra with 100k miles and im in the middle of doing a mild lift utilizing bilstein 5100's (F/R) and Single AAL in the rear. I've also tooken care of the timing chain and tensioner. I however need to relocate the trans cooler soon. Albeit i believe im going to just bypass it meanwhile this weekend during the suspension upgrade.

I am an engineering student, fascinated with bicycles and fabrication. Im working to build my own brand of custom steel tig welded steel bicycles by the end of this year. I currently work at a bike shop that builds custom frames and repairs steel frames.

Im excited to be apart of a community outside my comfort zone!

-cheers!

Welcome for the OC.  Over the next coupe of days you'll see a lot people form your neck of the woods chiming.  Sound like you got the right start on the upgrades, you may want to look into replacing your radiator very soon.  The original units have a bad habit of failing and allowing coolant into the transmission system causing the strawberry milkshake of death.  Then you're looking at a $3k-$5k to replace they tranny.  Enjoy your rig and I look forward to seeing some of your creations.

I plan to bypass the transmission cooler this weekend. I am trying to look for a pretty good replacement cooler that i will install when i get my hands on some money for spark plugs.

This is one of my bikes. This one is made of titanium. However, I mainly work with steel. I can weld aluminum and titanium, However steel is 11/10.

Let's see - you're into Xterras, bicycles, adventure, and welding. And judging by the looks of your photos, you're into photography as well. You might have a hard time fitting in around these parts lol (<---sarcastic font)  Oh yeah, and welcome from the Inland Empire! :)

Welcome, those bikes look incredible!

Have you ever dabbled with making rock sliders or after market bumpers? :)

After this weekend when I do the suspension. I'm going to work on an interior rear rack. Once I finish that. I'm probably going to do a new rear bumper because someone hit my rear bumper leaving a little dent that I don't like.

I haven't the slightest clue how thick the steel is used on common offroading stuff. That being said I have access to ARB bumpers for reference and inspiration.

I plan on making a full top rack however I read briefly about some xterras with rivnut issues??

Fairly easily addressed with a little heat...we used a soldering iron tip on the torx head to heat up the thread compound and the riv-nuts came out no sweat.

Really nice looking frame...I've done a little wrenching on the side, bikes are def a passion around these parts.

Welcome from Escondido/North SD County.  :)
