Lost in the desert
« on: January 27, 2011, 09:14:54 PM »
I always travel with two GPS's and paper maps with a compass ... I think I'm paranoid until I read about guys like these:

"On January 24, 2011, approximately 7:15 p.m., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff
Sept 24, 2006 ... Off Work = Off Road
2005 350Z 35th Anniversary
2006 Xterra Off Road
2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon

A cellular phone?  There's a lot of areas out there where a ham radio might be more useful.  Or a SPOT.

This is why if your in the desert no matter what time of the year it is you go with at least three day supply of evry thing. You always stay near your car.
If you dont have mud you have nothing.

Very true...seriously considering a SPOT.

Hand help GPS, topo maps, cell phone, HAM radio (as soon as I finish getting it installed), supplies to last 2-3 days, and someone back home who know where we went and when we're supposed to get back (roughly).

That's how typically how I try to ensure I make it back from every adventure.
I'm trying to figure out something witty.

Meh.  It's all about perspective.  Had they had some tasty beverages, they could've have been "hanging out and enjoying the desert" instead of "lost."
I like sammiches.  And bacon.  Sammiches with bacon.  And chips.  Lots of chips.

Two words, natural selection.  We've managed to mess it up.
I'd rather be happy than right any day.
