BAHHHH.... I wanna do this run.... but too many trips this month..already Shaver lake snow run leaving Friday 6th and then Pismo beach on 15th.
every one should install Dust lights on their trucks.... that was all that you guys could see on the trail last year when there was no cross wind.
I will be putting together a night run of this trail in a few months..... ill post up to see if any one wants to run this trail again. E

A.) Uhhh, well....I wuz gonna go the the mall with Buffy and the girls.
Q.) Okay, so wouldn't you way rather just hop in the X and head out to the desert to explore some crazy cool old dirt roads and hang out with Mitch and Brian and have a nice fire and stay up late and talk about UFO's and do some of that stuff the creepy old indian guy gave to paul.
A.) Roger dude. I'm in!

Have a great time everyone!

Have a great time everyone!
No Bobby. :( :'(
-
I think firewood is a good idea, it will be about 44 to 45 degrees at night, not too cold -besides keeps those coyotes further away.
I think I burned some weird formica table top last time - doubt if I find anything that big or flamable this year........ ???

I hate the smell of burning Formica, brings back some really bad memories (and just smells really bad too).
Sorry I won't be there this year. Have a great time everyone.

I am interested in going with my wife and daughter, but I have several question because I am a newbie. Is there someone I can call to ask a lot of question?
Thanks
Chris
-
Chris, I pm'ed you my phone number. I too am still new to this group, but I have been on two xcursions and feel I have things pretty well figured out. Except when Mitch starts talking about UFO's and tin foil hats. ;D
-
Chris, welcome to the club. I sent you my number as well, in case you don't get hold of Don. Also, if you've not seen them yet, the Xcursion Guidelines at the top of this section may answer some questions.
Oh, and to further what Don said, you also never want to get between Mitch and Dan. (In fact, I should probably just add that to the Guidelines.)
-
I thought we didn't talk about AFDB's on the club site because they could be listening?
-
I just did a test run of the west and western part of the central road and conditions are nothing short of outstanding. People if you make one trip this year ... make it next week!
Here's my trip pictures:

The only tough part is the water crossing which I did two years ago dead nutz stock. The water is deep but just follow Brian. ;)
There aren't any "technical" crawling and only a couple of places that are "challenging" - lots of lose sand (air down & 4WD) and about 50 yards worth of easy/light "rock garden" in Shaw Pass. I would say this run is very stock friendly, and I mean that in a "Paul stock friendly" not a "Brian stock friendly" way. Top off with gas at Barstow where I found gas at $2.09-$2.19.

What? Who?
-
What? Who?
Uh Oh! Looks like Mitch has been "wiped". One of the hazards of improper AFDB construction and deployment. :o
(this post issued from within the Cone of Silence)
-

Are some of us still meeting at 7am at the Chevron Gas station on Foothill Blvd. EAST of the 15 Fwy by Wal-Mart? Or do we go to the other spot up north at 9am?
-
I'm going to meet Paul at the Afton Canyon campground Friday night. I won't be able to do Sunday so this will break-up the drive. Campers welcome to join us.

Dan, take a video camera. I'm sure that the cops will show up to speak with Paul at some point during the evening.
Have fun everyone, sorry I can't be there.

-
Great seeing everyone, sorry I had to leave early. Good seeing Justin and Eric again, boy it's been a long time. Lot's of new people too. Hope everyone had a great time.
-
Home and safe!
Thanks to Brian big time, as always, for leading the group. Sort of like herding cats, you're either good at it or not, Brian is (a good cat herder). :D
Good to see old friends and new. The worst casualty of the trip was Joe who has thrown some sort of emission control code and poor Mark who lost power crossing the valley when his battery terminal popped loose. A quick turn of the wrench by Oz and everything was good to go.
I took lots (and lots) of pictures of the scenery, the trucks, and some really cute kids (and not so cute fathers!).
-
Home safe also. Those were some crazy winds driving home. Thanks Brian for leading a great trip. It was fun meeting everyone. Eric thanks for bringing the campfire entertainment (Todd). Hope everyone made it home safely. I will post pictures tomorrow.
-
WOW! that was a BLAST. Thanks everyone for a good time. brian your endless knowledge of the rural areas out here in socal amazes me. hopefully one of these days i can get a little trip planned and let you attack some of the harder obstacles without having to worry about everyone (trying to) follow you! paul, you got a link to all your pictures? (i found it, im semi retarded...)
-
We had an Epic time. Excellent turn out. 11 trucks and 25 people. Glad to see you all again, and to meet the new people. My buddies, Tod and Mike couldn't stop saying how much fun they had and how cool everyone was. Thanks again for the food, it's great how we always potluck. I'm just glad that I'm not on a diet, or don't eat meat...
Thanks Paul for taking so many pictures, I'm sure they are professional grade as usual. Couldn't ask for a better lead Brian, Thanks.
Until next time......
-
Sorry I missed this trip, a great turn out and glad no major breakdowns. Looking forward to seeing the pictures - I wonder if people will be doing this in 50 years?
-
Thank you all, we had an awesome time and definitely looking forward to the next adventure. This is really a great group and thanks for looking out for the newbie, you put my nerves at ease. And Paul, I know you weren't talking about me, because I am about as cute as they come!!!
-
Wow!
You guys rock!
That was an absolutely amazing run with some even more awesome company!
Natasha and I had a blast and the kids could not stop talking about all the fun they had.
Once again I am impressed with Brian's knowledge and I do hope that this whole group can make future runs together.
Until the next time, take care everyone!
