Just found out that Michael's new soccer team is playing in a Touranment that weekend so looks like I'm out darn it  :(

I heard that Anza maybe at its wildflower peak that weekend, so think about that as a day trip? Frank, Mitch, Paul or somebody might be able to led that or Bradshaw.

I'm going to try and get a Mojave Rd trip going for April now, just don't know what weekend yet but I'll keep everybody posted.

I was just in Borrego this weekend.  It was very green.  I do think it'll bloom right about the weekend of this trip.

I can lead the Bradshaw, I was just there in December. I'd like to do the western end as the trip down Red Canyon and through the Augustine Pass and Chuckwalla Springs areas is much more exciting than the Bradshaw Trail which is pretty much a nice dirt road for a great distance. We'll skip the trip up to the Palen Pass. The meeting point would be the Charico Sumit on the 10 freeway ... can't miss it. There's a gas station there to fill up.

Paul,

If you can lead the Bradshaw run on the weekend of the 13th-14th that would be great. I think I've got a few things that will keep me in San Diego, at least on Saturday.  Your idea of doing the western end sounds good, Red Canyon down from Chiraco Summit is a really nice ride.  Those that want to make it a day trip could probably exit up Gas Line Road, depending on how you get on that day.

A couple of years ago we started at Chiraco, went down Red Canyon, east on the Bradshaw to Gas Line, then took that up to Red Cloud Mine Road (I think) and found that nice large camp spot. The next day we backtracked down Gas Line to the Bradshaw and took that east to (I think) Graham Pass Road and out to I-10.

That whole area should be really nice this time of year, I'm sorry I'll miss it.

Word of caution for 1st Gen S/C owners: bring extra fuel.  And, everyone should top off at Chiraco Summit.

I will try to set up a wildflower tour trip to Anza Borrego for Saturday the 6th. I was out there yesterday, it was nice. Next weekend should be really good.  If I can do it I'll put up a separate thread.

Paul, thank you for offering to lead this Xcursion.  Let me know if I can do anything to help.

Finally got my radio up to speed, and even acquired a new tri band antenna so I am good to go on 220mhz.  Maybe I could offer to sweep on this run?

I am in process of installing a CB as well.

Sorry for the big picture.  ;D

This is what I suggest for day one - meet at Chiriaco Summit at 10:00 AM, top off and head south toward Red Canyon. It takes about two easy hours to make it down the canyon. We'll eat lunch in the canyon before heading east bound down the Bradshaw Trail proper. The graphic below shows the elevation in the solid background and speed in red. Where the red line drops downwards is where I stopped for pictures ... I like to stop a lot!

We skirt along the north edge of the Chocolate Mountain bombing range. We can do 40 mph along the Bradshaw Trail here so it takes about an hour and a half to drive the trail to the point where it turns into the Augustine Pass Trail. The Pass is a bit slower going and it takes about another hour and a half to get to the point on the map where it cuts south.

This is where the day trippers can bail out the road that continues east before cutting north and out to the 10 highway - this is smooth packed gravel road and takes about 45 minutes. It's 14.5 miles down Red Canyon to the Bradshaw, 31.25 miles to the camp area, and 18.5 out to the 10 freeway ... and then a long way back to Chiriaco.

We'll camp over night in the BLM land around Chuckwalla Springs and come the next day we can run up and back the road to the spring, out around the road the day trippers used and right where it does that "S" loop we'll turn south (not shown on the map) and head down the Graham Pass Road back to the Bradshaw Trail. We'll run the Bradshaw to the east and bail north at Wileys Well Road or a couple of less improved trails that run through the Little Chuckwalla Mountains. We ran the Graham Pass a few years ago and it was interesting but with the years and the recent rains who knows!

The whole trip is very stock friendly - almost the whole trip can be made in 2WD but there are some parts with deep loose sand which would concern me.

My cell phone number is (nine five one) eight four oh ! eight six one one. I generally turn my cell phone off once we leave pavement ... I would hate to get called back to work. I'm thinking the wild flowers ought to be at or very near their peak blooms.

May I suggest you run the trail all the way out to Palo Verde?  There is still a lot to see past the Wiley Wells cutoff like the Pebble Beach area.
I'd rather be happy than right any day.

Paul, that is quite the technology you've got going there. Speed, distance, elevation, everything. Like having a Black Box recorder in the X.

... did I mention that I'm a geek? The GPS integrates with my camera so that the maps I have puts clickable icons on the map to pull the pictures up in Picassa. I'm still looking for a program that will do that with video - the "bread crumbs" on the map have time stamps so I can look at the time on the video and figure out where it was shot but automatic would be nice.

Running the Mojave Trail tomorrow starting out at the AZ border back to the west and home by Saturday. I want to see Soda Lake ... but plan on having to by-pass it.
