You can get the NISMO mounts from a 98 240SX that are a direct bolt on for the 1st Gen X. Not sure about the 2nd gen.
I fixed and calibrated my cb radio, re-mounted the sml. solar panel that charges the 2nd battery in the trunk and did a Mobil 1 5-30w oil change.

I haven't done much to my X just yet, but I have an IMS and Injen intake awaiting install, wondering if you guys have any preferred shops, good work for a good price and could point me in that direction that would be great... Also just ordered a magnaflow 12268 and am looking for a shop to fab some piping
Thank you!
Where do you live?
Oh that would help im sure
I'm in Claremont/Pomona area.. But i venture all over Socal if it's worth it
Theres a shop in Monrovia accross the street from the high scho there. The guys a bit of a douche, but he works for beer and pizza. Woody's been there.......maybe he can chime in.
I started laying out the drawings and cardboard for a custom built Gen2 hidden winch mount that will allow you to use your OEM bumper (minor trimming of plastic required), and will include 2 front recovery points. ;D
That rear looks familiar... oh yeah, I drove behind it from Utah last year! ;)
. . . .
I have other pictures of Chris' rear end/diff filling party, but they are definitely NSFW.

You've not spent a lot of time paying attention to politicians lately have you? As if having a wife and mistress would make much difference these days. It probably would not be much of a problem even if they were of different genders.

Got the preliminary winch mount fabbed up. ;D
This plate style carrier should fit 09 and up and fit a large variety of winches with 4x10 bolt pattern.
The lower portion of the factory bumper will need to be trimmed so this carrier can fit properly.
I suspect it will fit just a few inches beyond the current bumper, like its almost not even there.
I should be able to bolt up the OEM skid or any other brand name skid plates to the plate carrier, by drilling the required holes in the bottom rear of the carrier.
Well I guess we know where you are... Snowed in in Mammoth ;D I can sure think of some worse places.....
I took mine out for a drive in the desert last weekend.

As for mods, haven't done anything significant to it in several years. I'm sure it could use some more stuff, like lights, but gas is cheaper than mods.
Cool pic Danny...you should add this to your build thread. The Yak basket looks great too.
Hey that's cool Jeff. What size winch did you get? I can tell synth cable :)I ended up getting the Warn VR8000-S. Yep synth line
. . . . That shovel bailed my out a few times this weekend. Absolutly not for decoration. I had to dig 3 ft of snow for about 20ft just to get to my truck.
No Moab for me. I've been there and like to use my vacation time for new places ;D
Looks really good Doc ;)
Damn, it looks really good. What was your wait time for delivery?
That speaker fits perfect. Might have to pick one or two of those up.
Does the speaker work for both ham radio and CB?
Yes. They both run to the speaker. A "y" connector and a couple of mono extensions made it all work. I had the seats and entire center console out for this.
^^^^^^^^^^^
What Jordan said!
I put one speaker behind the seats so I know if it's the CB or the Ham mike that I have to pick up.
Example:
Ham speaker, "Hey Randy, is rest of the group keeping up OK?
CB mike, "Are you kidding me, those stupid CBers could not keep up with with my grandma's.........(break)
CB speaker, "Hey you stupid SOB, you're talking on the wrong radio again.
I'll have to figure something out. With a dual receive ham and a cb, I think I'd rather have separate speakers. The volume's work from the radios them selves. You can have each as soft or as loud as you want. I can immediately tell the difference between the two from the sound quality.
Where did you get the speaker, and what brand is it?
That has to be some kind of record. Averaging 9 mins per side? :o
BTW who is doing the re-springing for you?
A local shop. Should be a quick spring swap.
Spring compressors spook me, but as much as I'm paying to have someone do them, I should just go out and get one my self.
I have a pair on the hook and bolt type compressors but only have them incase of emergencies.
Wow bummed. What brand spacers are those?I have no idea man. It really wasnt the spacers that caused the problem, they were still tight on the axle. The only reason they broke is because of when the wheel lugs loosend up they webt through some serious abuse with the wheel

Surfer, you're 100% right?! The title of this tread is 'What have you DONE to your rig...', not what are you 'going' to do ;)
Congrats to all of you guys. I'm gonna open a thread called 'What will I do to my rig when I get all the parts, and my tax refund, and a clue on how to do it'. It'll be bigger than the Kardashians :o

Anyone want to hit Cleghorn the day before Thanksgiving?

Wow JT that is a dramatic difference. Almost tells me the driver's side is on the docket very soon.
I replaced both sides and put HID's in also. Talk about a difference. Especially on those DARK stretches of freeway in Utah.
Yup...DS definitely in the near future. Want the new lights to age gracefully together for the next 195K. 8)
Its raining today so i decided to do this
Looks good
Bought amber H11 foglights, a new 800 watt 120V inverter, pair of amber LED sidemarkers, added the Odyssey battery from the 1st gen x, nd upgraded most of the lightbulbs into LED type.
Tweaked my rear Tag bumper...still need to add the fuel can rack to the right of the tire.

Danny, you need to post a pic of your rig
When I removed the spare and hitch from under my X, it was like a cavern. There's a lot of space under there
I thought this X was going the way of the DODO bird?
Your right!
After Steve got rear ended alot of parts got replaced....including this.
A little grinding and a little massaging and everything was lining up again. I picked up his old bumper as an experiment and it worked out well.
Thanks Steve!
And let you have all the fun?! You can thank the misses for letting me keep her. :)

Very nicely done, John.
Gnod morning John. Yes, they are the light load OME. The sales rep at ARB felt that the HD springs would be too stiff and high for the front end without the HD bumper. Want one but not sure when I'm going to get it with my car payments.
I know that area well

Thanks Jordan...there we a few bullet holes in it, but from the hardware I have seen on the Military Channel, that target should have been obliterated.
We stayed "on the road" and motored out of there. I was surprised that there weren't fences/gates? I guess the govt. figures anyone foolish enough to wander beyond said signs should suffer the risk/reward? ;)
The hill to the south of us looked like it had an observation post, as well as lots of high tech communications gear. We thought Homeland Security/Border Patrol, but after seeing the signs for the bombing range...maybe spotters/comms for pilots?
Nonetheless, a really cool area of the desert.
Just curious, what do you guys think about a "Where have you taken your rig lately" thread, similar to this one, instead of "done" more of a focus on "where?" Kinda a quick post area for trip photos...rather than starting a whole new thread?
Thoughts?

You can not walk to a dealers part counter and ask for a gear ratio. They need to do it by VIN or type of rig.
Get this stuff through Steevo. Trust me, you'll want his support and experience that comes with every order.
Deadpilot, I'm curious to know your thoughts on your axle decisions for your SAS. What is your spline count front and rear? Your Dana 44 has a larger RP than your c200k, I would consider your 44 stronger than your 200. Does it concern you having a stronger front axle than your rear ?

Replace all 4 TPMS at the same time.
I'm with you Sir. That TPMS is nothing but pain. I've replace at least 6-7 of them between broken valve stems(which is a great reason for the rubber) and breaking for no apparent reason. What I also love is when that damn light starts blinking then the only option to as Chris puts it buy all 4 if costs you a trip to the dealer because they seem to be the only folk that can diagnose WHICH one is bad.
Been working on three mods: OBA system with tank, leaf pack skids, and snorkel. Have hit snags on all three. After I mounted my new air compressor if kept seizing up and burning through fuses drawing to much power. Quick call to the company and a new one is on it's way, waiting on that. Had to order new u bolts for the lead pack, waiting on those. Still gather correct hardware for my snorkel. Hoping to have all three projects done in a week and will post up pictures. What compressor are you running?

Radio looks good! Keep us posted on the mount and how you eliminate the vibrations. I am looking at a similar mount for a 7" tablet, because I also love that location. I feared it would vibrate a ton and your post confirmed my expectations.
I have some plans for it that will make it a muti use trailer. It will have some windows/side door added in and the inside will have subfloor that will fold up so I can still have the whole trailer for cargo. But for now it is as is till the X is done.

(http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/661/IP3WXg.jpg) (https://imageshack.com/i/idIP3WXgj)So I got my PRG suspension, HERE IS MY PROBLEM
So far I haven't been able to really gauge the difference in steering. It definitely different, but I can't decide if I like it. I haven't gotten the truck aligned yet and I've needed to get the tires balanced for a while now. I got the tires done today and it's already riding much smoother, but I still need to get the alignment done.Hey Joe, I had my steering done on Monday at Firestone it made a difference especially on tight turns (uturns)
Joe - if you go to Firestone; for $200 you can get a lifetime alignment - you can have it aligned as many times as you want, no limits. Which for us has already paid for itself...
This used to be true...but Firestone seems to be waffling on the "lifetime" offer to "lifted off-road" vehicles, so be careful how you "posture" your discussion.
I was denied the lifetime offer based upon my "lifted" Tacoma.
Maybe it was just a "Toyota" thing, but the Firestone manager here in Oceanside wasn't budging.
That's crazy! We bought it when we got the lift and needed an adjustment. They used the fact that we offroad as a selling point for the lifetime alignment. Took it to a different (closer) Firestone when we switched out the shocks. No hassle, no questions, just fast service......
Sounds like you're getting the shaft from that Oceanside manager..... :'( :'(
Got multiple things done to the Mule this weekend! Hood blackout done, wiring of lights in process, and corner lights in ;D
I also have the Firestone lifetime alignments, local place to me does crappy alignments but doesn't hassle me about going off road. I just have to be vigilant to make sure they do it right, or make it right when they don't.

Uuugghhhhhh, I see that photo appears to be in front of the O-Side DMV. I'm surprised you do not have cobwebs and a 2" layer of dust on the Taco as fast as things move there....
Started modding! Removed mud flaps last night. Got all my parts for my cb setup (cobra 18wx st2 w/ 4ft. Firestik). And White Knuckle is working away on my DOM sliders. Eventually I'll go with an OME 2" lift.Good choices all around.
Freaking badass Joe. >:D
And for about $2.00 a pound you can't beat it ;D
Ha, that's just about right! I wish I had tried to weigh this thing before I installed it. It has to be at least 150 lbs. The skid plate is easily another 60 lbs. I'm starting to worry that once I mount up a winch, my 650# springs may not be stiff enough anymore :o

This.
650#'ers are perfect Sir Holder of My Griddle. :D
Whoa, whoa, whoa.... that was supposed to be our secret! :D
Well I guess Greg from PRG did me right when he recommended the 650s (I told him I was already running a winch and that a bumper was in my future). I honestly didn't think they were too stiff before the bumper, and they're much softer now (although still very acceptable) with the bumper but no winch mounted yet. I probably would have liked the ride of 700# more, but the 650# will be fine.
He's a griddle whore.

Well done Tony. How is your on board air comming? I should be in stalling mine this week.
What kind of OBA you getting installed?
Well, being the cheap guy that I am, I fixed my MF50 Tsunami and bought another one ($50) to make my own twin compressor. I found a 5-Liter aluminum tank on Ebay ($40) and bought the pressure switch/manifold/air release unit, and fittings to plumb it together. I don't seem to have as much room as you do under my winch, so I will be mounting everything separately. I will try to take some pics as it's coming together this week.

Sorry John
Ahh I get it, I bought them as a full on package that way. Ebay does have Viton gaskets and retention straps thru a member called Jagmte. I have a few of his accessories for my water cans (FYI LCI sells them for the cheapest and even offers free shipping on water cans, I have 20 of them, and have had some for over 10 years still going strong).
He also has a direct site here http://www.jagmte.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=59 (http://www.jagmte.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=59)

You guys that have used Scepters (looking at Shift_X, Un4seen4, & spoolup in particular) did you do anything to clean or refurb the actual can itself - especially the ones that were previously used for diesel - before filling it with gas? Or is it just get the right gasket on and you're set?
Randy, the OBA is great and all, but I'm WAY more impressed that you took pictures and wrote words about those pictures!
Somebody mark this day!

Sucks that most of our options are shops that don't know how to communicate with customersThere wasn't a lack of communication with them, it was a lack of production. They responded quickly each time I contacted them. However, their sense of urgency was never there.

I have been busy with some small things... I finally attempted to install the Vigg blackout by myself. I failed. Because I am stubborn, I ordered another and will attempt again with assistance. I also just installed LEDs in all the interior lights. While I am not a fan of the LED white color temp, I love how much brighter it is. Saturday I will be attempting a U joint replacement and finally, I just ordered a Dephep Molle window insert.
I would LOVE to do the mod day... It may be just a bit outside of my range. It's hard to disappear for a few hours with a wife and kids at home. I am playing it by ear but would still love to go.Not sure where you're at but I could be willing to help out if you're relatively close, I'm in the Antelope Valley. I did mine with the help of my wife. I did the hard work, scraping, centering, and stretching. She helped me peel, place on the hood, and keep it straight. So, your assistant doesn't need any real vinyl skills.
Very nice,Don't jinx me. Ha-ha

I really like that bumper; clean, light and great approach angle. Well done!I was going for a minimalist look and this was it. I wasn't sure how it would look without hoops, but I'm pretty happy n with it.
That looks really good Rick, I'd second the minimalist look: having a lot of metal would be good for a rig that's constantly scraping/bashing against the rocks, but for most trucks the less weight and heft the better.
And I don't know if I mentioned before but those wheels are awesome! Down the road I might look into whether Level 8 makes those in the first gen bolt pattern. :D
Where did you get the Ham antenna/antenna mount from?

So after having a little vibration on the highway that I have been trying to track down, I finally found the culprit. Someone installed the tender coil underneath the main coil. That little spring was pretty much all the way compressed bouncing all over the place on little bumps causing the vibration. I removed the sway bar to allow full articulation so the springs were not compressed and swapped them around.
You did real good, those look nice! Thanks, I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.
Rik, Who made that bumper? It was made by P&P Engineering. http://p-p-engineering.myshopify.com/collections/xterra-gen-ii-2005/products/2nd-gen-2005-nissan-xterra-tube-front-bumper It turned out pretty nice, but be wary of their customer service. It took me just over four months to receive it, when quoted 6 weeks. There was a guy that was local to them that ordered two weeks after I did and received his bumper 1.5 months before I did. This seems to be their MO and is fairly well documented on some other forums. They treat their local customers pretty well, for the most part, but long distance customers seem to have issues. I had to threaten a payment dispute to get the thing shipped. The overall quality is excellent and it's pretty well engineered. However, there is some welding splatter here and there. You'd be better off finding somewhere local to make a copy. I've offered up detailed pics to someone else that asked about having one fab'd locally.

Man that's a lot of gadgets. very jealous.I love my gadgets. :) I determined a needed a better GPS after trying to mark a couple of sites on the in-dash nav that came in the truck. I tried to find one place in the desert that I had marked at night, so I didn't know what it really looked like during the day. The GPS put me about 2 miles off, not fun. Also, the handheld will help during hikes, etc. and it's already pre-loaded with caches, if I decide to do that.
The Ham radio looks good too Rick.Thanks. One of these days, I'd like to try to get you for testing. I've been out and used it and it receives fine, but I haven't actually initiated a transmission. I picked up a net from Hemet a couple of weeks ago, so I know the thing receives pretty well.
Nice. I'm home, just let me know when you want to run a test. Table mountain has a net on Sundays at 6 that you can check into too.I'll have to check into that this week. Should be a good opportunity to check out the rig. I tried calling CQ on it a couple of times but have received no response.
Adjusted the front Radflos and got an alignment. Can't wait to see that rack.
Put the tent on the new and improved, Danny modified, roof rack; complete with winter temp sleeping bags.

WOW Steve!! :o
Wow Steve, looks AMAZING! This mod is very high on my wish list. I've just always been scared of the actual project of cutting the old head lights up, in case I destroy them. I need to find out what to bribe Jordan with. O0
As for what you were waiting for - I think it's pretty obvious that you were waiting until you owned a nice enough camera to take accurate before and after photos. :D
That's BA Rick!I can't wait to use it, should be a perfect spot for sleeping bags, pads, and extra clothing. It'll also make a perfect spot to hang a lantern while in camp.
Sent Heftyfabworks a bunch of money today, only 12 weeks....
Geez Rik, I know you live WAAAYY out there but I wouldn't call it North Dakota. lolHa-ha No smog checks, less than $100 for registration? I'm going to take advantage of that for as long as possible.
Changed the transmission fluid, transfer care, and rear differential fluid. I was going to do the front but the diff cover doesnt have a drain plug so I wasnt prepared to pull the cover off and reseal it. The fill plug also requires a large allen key that I dont have so I may get to that this Friday. The transmission fluid didn't look too bad. Had a slight tinge of brown to it but was mostly red still. The transfer case was pretty dirty and had a large amount of metal shaving on the drain plug. No big chunks so for now I'm good. The rear diff had some white milky fluid in it which I am assuming was water but once that drained out it had a nice purple color to it. AFT synthetic for the transmission, Master Pro Synthetic 75-90 for the transfer case, and Master Pro 80-90 for the diff's. I'll probably change out the diff fluid every 30,000 miles or after deep water crossing so I didn't bother using a synthetic.

Dana 44 front axle to be specific. Anyways I pulled the bolts off the front diff cover and that thing is on there good. Tried for a little while to get the cover free from the sealant but it wouldn't budge. The fluid is right at the fill plug so I left it for now. I think a new cover might be a future mod so I can just fill and drain and be done with it. Also purchased some wheels spacers from Amazon to widen the front axle to match the rear.
What did they seal that cover with JB Weld?
Yeah maybe. It looks like black RTV was used and probably alot of it. Any good tips on getting the cover off the next time I do this? I didn't want to pry it off and mess up the mating surface of the axle. Probably try this again soon with a six pack of some good IPA's for help.
I'm not exactly sure what would be the easiest way to go about doing it if you are worried about marring the metal. Gently tapping a straight slot screw driver straight in with a rubber mallet has always worked well for me. Make sure the screwdriver is more over towards the diff cover so the lions share of the existing RTV is still on the diff and keep the angle straight. If something does get scratched up in the process I'd rather it be the cover. If you have a stock cover now might be a good time to upgrade to something more solid? In the end as long as it gets sealed properly some minor scratches on the cover shouldn't be too much of an issue.
Yeah I will try and use a screw driver and mallet like you suggested. I'll probably hang onto the current diff cover as a quick search shows that it is well built and thick. http://www.wideopendesign.com/Product/149/CRANE-Dana-44-Diff-Cover.aspx It would be nice though to have a drain plug.
Awesome Tony! You'll be setup nicely for that Spring Mojave Road trip (you are going, right?!?).

Oh, I forgot to mention about the boots and after seeing the rub marks in your pic it reminded me to mention something. You can run these without boots, if you want. I removed the boots since on these shocks just because they would catch dirt and sand and rub the struts, as you can see. I also removed the boots on my new struts, before I even installed them. It's your choice, really, on whether you want to put boots back on them.

Now you can handle a trasharoo on there with no weight issues, too. :) That's actually why I upgraded mine in the first place, but I love how much higher it opens now.Funny, I have a Trasharoo on the way...The stock struts could also stand to be longer, that would help a lot for anyone that doesn't change theirs out.
Do you put the Trasharoo directly on the liftgate?
Which ball mount did you use as the base? Thats the final piece to my ram mount puzzle. I'll be mounting in the same location. Does the cubby vibrate while the tablets mounted?
Just ordered a Goal Zero Yeti 400 from REI. They are having a 20% off sale for members, free shipping or store pickup, plus I had a dividend from last year's purchases. Total cost - just under $360

No more worrying about the Engel running out of juice or killing my main battery.

So, I got down and did all I could aside from removing my tire last night, and it seems I have 2 studs that are stripped.
Who/where can I get replacement studs, and how difficult is the replacement?
I think Valentin said he has some....but I'd like to get a few extra in the event this comes up again
<insert stripped studs, replacement studs, Valentin's studs jokes here>
Looks great! Is that mounted under the driver's side kick panel? That seems like a good spot.
Be careful those Ballistic Diff covers have been known to turn Gold
Heh.

Geoff, those are BadAss looking uppers with the camber adjusters. Good job.
Looks like you need new tires though lol The tread looks an inch deep.
Thanks Jordan and his trans jack
Looks great! However.......................................you definitely need some desert modifications to that vehicle. Those sliders well they are just wayyyyy too p r e t t y[. We need to get those mods in order here on the quick before you have to wear the "Fez" in front of the general membership on the next sanctioned run.
Last trip up to Big Bear the X ran hot the whole time and it was hard to keep it cool. Upgrades were a must!!! Today I installed a the supercharger radiator (2 row), 170 thermostat, and wired the second E-Fan to also run off of a switch instead of the thermostat controlled. Also a plus for water crossings to not have the fan spraying water everywhere. The second fan would come on rarely and wouldn't stay on when running hot. I also bypassed the transmission line from the radiator to the external cooler only to hopefully keep the coolant temps down. Only issue I had was when I sealed the thermostat housing with RTV it leaked. I used a gasket the second time around and no leaks. Hood vents looked too pricey right now so for the time being I raised up the rear of the hood 1 inch. With the fans running ALOT of hot air escapes from the opening vs getting stuck under the hood.
Installed Nissan window visors last night. Installed extended front brake lines, rear bump stop extensions, and changed the oil today.

Curious how that pre-filter will work out. I remember reading somewhere that it's a bad idea to use a pre-filter in the snorkel for the Xterra, but I don't remember what the reason was (and it seemed kind of far fetched, if I remember correctly).I plan on swapping it for the street scoop when I am airing down. There are some other pre-filters that look like a sock that hangs down inside the snorkel tube. I could see that becoming a problem since you can't easily check to see if it is full, or got sucked down further into the tube! :o

Are we still talking about old guys here lol
So on Friday afternoon doing my inspection before heading to Sacramento I decided to service my rear differential. bought 3 quarts of 75w-90 Valvoline Synthetic gear oil. At the time of drain the plug had the usual picture of "metal sludge" and half way thru the drain, this comes out.I know it's your vehicle, but seeing the issues you've had with it makes me feel a little frustrated too. It's kinda like sympathy child birth pains. Lol I hope you get everything figured out.
My assumption and from experience, this is a piece off one of the gear teeth. Super bummer this had to happen before the trip. The oil wasn't as dirty as expected and see this didn't bring any ease to me. Seems the more I try to make sure the truck is up to maintenance intervals, the more I find the prior owner's history of this Xterra. Either I replace the diff or the whole axle to the upgraded m226 or factory replacement. Wife wants to see how much CarMax values the X, if its a number she is happy we will most likely trade it in or sell it. my wife isnt very happy that the money I want to use for upgrades, its for maintenance. Don't have much to say since the X is under my wifes name. lol We will look into another Xterra.
Ouch,,,, By chance after your trip are you going to pull your differential cover and do a gear inspection?
The thing about Car Max is that they base their offer off of what their market for the vehicle looks like. They have over 125 dealerships nationwide, and they sell hundreds of thousands of vehicles a year, both at retail and at auction (they actually operate their own auctions now, too). So they have a very accurate barometer of what they'll get for teh vehicle, and there are very standard procedures for profit margins and what not. In the end, they don't care what the blue book says. And this is true either way: They offered us $1800 more than the blue book trade-in value for my wife's first Rogue, because it was a hot vehicle at the time and they were flying out of their dealerships, especially with lower mileage. We then took that "offer" to the dealership where we purchased her Pathfinder, and negotiated an even higher trade-in value for the Rogue there, despite the fact that their first offer came in about $2,000 under Car Max's offer (regular dealerships almost always offer you less than the low blue book on their first shot and say there are "refurbishing charges" and what not, even though Kelly Blue Book already factors that in).
They know what they'll get for it, so it's a pretty simple process to make you an offer once they inspect the car. And it really could go either way: If they have a bunch of people looking for Xterras and they're flying off the lots, they may offer you more than you think for it. If it's going straight to auction (too many miles, needs major work, etc), or if they have Xterras sitting on their lots around the country that aren't selling well, they may offer you considerably less than you were expecting. But it never hurts to check - the appraisal is free and there's no-pressure, and they even honor their offer for a week after they've made it so you can think it over.
Don't forget that Cyl #3 has a +.06 gap increase over the others. Would suck to have to pull the whole thing apart again.

Installed a new wiring harness from Derale for the electric fans. One relay per fan this time around to accommodate for the large amperage draw. Any more issues with the fans and I am going back to the mechanical stock set up. Also put a new air fitting in the air tank to fix the small leak I had.
Was that stemming from the air leak we were hearing last new years?
Yeah that was the same air fitting. Once the tank hit full air pressure I could wiggle the fitting and it would seal up but the last couple trips it had a constant leak.
That's a company I want to work for. I have to have an Iphone for work phone, I loathe it.
Just a couple pennies, don't store your shackles on the recovery points. The screw pin should be loose in the shackle so that it can be removed by hand when needed, but they will disappear(fall off) due to vibration or thieves will take them. Best place is to keep them with your recovery strap, the wetbox is a handy place. :D

Hi Lift mounted.
What mounting brackets did you use? I'm trying to figure out if I want to mount a Hi-Lift for the Rubicon on the Garvin rack or the rear swing arm.
The Hi Lift 1-1/2" tube mount Erik...grabbed it on Amazon for $61 delivered. Worked really well, no slippage with the weight of the jack, no rattles, easy access.

Looks nice. I also need to build something to keep tools/trail gear separate from other cargo for ease of access.
Many of the wear and tear items have now been replaced on his rig. The next thing to figure out is why his gas gauge now sits at 3/4 full when the tank is completely full It still goes down from there but that does not help a lot.

I figured there was some sort of issue with the sending unit, thanks Ghost. The saving grace is when the low fuel light goes off I know I'm down to five gallons so I can at least go another 60-70 miles safely. This is the same level of accuracy mine came with directly from the factory. It shows over full when I fill it to the top, but when the reserve light comes on, I still have five gallons left. My wife's 2016 Rogue, on the other hand, has less than a gallon left when the reserve comes on.
Who re-did the arm? That looks like Kennys work.

I think after doing some research I will replace the FSU by cutting a hole in truck for an access port. Several have said they broke bolts and had to hassle drilling then out, etc. and Jake's truck spent 3 years in the northeast and I have already had to deal with so many rotted and broken bolts, I am wanting to avoid more. Anyone have the secret to the easiest way to cut through the floor pan?
IIRC...the gas tank is located on the DS, just under the rear seat area. The hole size necessary to facilitate pulling the FSU through would be sizable, larger than a tennis ball but smaller than a volleyball. Not to mention re-welding and sealing the hole once the project is completed. That area of the Xterra (again, IIRC) has the seatbelt/seat mount anchors bolted near there, and potentially compromising that body integrity would concern me.On my old Range Rover Countys there was an access port built in to the center of the rear deck. It was a square plate with 8-10 bolts and a seal. Take off the plate and the fuel pump was right under it in the tank. No need to drop the tank to change the pump. Just so long as the hole is bigger than the pump, that could work.

As far as the seat belts go, do they bolt through the body or into the frame? If it si trough the body, you might need to add a reinforcement plate of some type.
Several have done it through the floor and have posted images on the new X. Its about an 8 inch hole in sheet metal that is not structural. I guess the 1st gen Xterra came with the port for this purpose. The guys that have done it just fab a piece of alum. as a new cover, liquid gasket and a few machine screws and its good as new. The hole goes in about an 1-2" from the jack and tools holder and is completely under the carpet. Handy for later when the FSU goes again or the pump goes out.
The bolts under this X are most just rounded nubs with little or no threads left. It spent 3-4 years in the northeast, I'll never understand how anything lasts long out there. I already have about 6 bolts to drill out/extract from the original skid plates.
Joe...Jordan...Randy...Erik...Danny...Tim...any thoughts on this?
New obtanium...

nah, between the special key I need to get my lugs off, to how the lugs have been stripped, I'd rather have steelies to make it easier to take a wheel on/off...esp when in a crunchAh, gotcha, that makes sense. It is nice to have normal lugs again.

Changed out the front and rear differentials with Lucas 85w140. Had to pull the front diff cover because there is no drain on mine. One good thing about that is inspecting the gears while in there. All is good with no metal chunks or missing teeth. Transfer case got done with Red Line MT-90. After alot of searching for a while this is a true GL4(not GL4 / GL5) lubricant that will not corrode yellow or soft metals. Spark plugs got swapped out also and tomorrow I am going to get a new cap and rotor while I am at it. New spark plug wires are ready to go on after the cap and rotor.
What method of installing spark plugs did you take? I am about to do sparks on my xterra also. Im reluctant to take the intake manifold off.
Nice bumper and OBA setup. The dual air fittings in the front and rear are very useful. What winch are you looking at to stick on that bumper?
TBH, Jordan and I talked about this. I probably don't need a winch. I want a winch, but the type of wheeling I do, it just doesn't make sense as "the next mod." That being said, probably one of Warns offerings :)I happen to have an extra winch (took it off my Dodge) that I could give you a good price on. It is a Warn 16.5Ti like this:
There are just some other things I'd like to do before I get a winch. Stuff to make "overlanding" more awesome. Roof rack, reworked rear suspension, stuff like that.
So, I think I'm the only one on there that doesn't have on-board air. I know what I'm asking the wife for Christmas.

Masterson in San Marcos does on the spot fills for $16.
Nice! I've heard upwards of $30 to fill these...glad it's half!
Trust me...you're not the only one. I'm really debating on going with OBA or Powertank. Obviously the downside of PT is having to get it refilled. That 30 sec. fill time per tire is pretty tempting. I also like the idea of running air tools off of a tank that can be moved from the front to the back of the line if needed. I found a company online that makes a tank that is pretty much the exact same thing as PowerTank for 1/2 the price..so $200 for their setup is much more enticing...I'm not sure if I'm going to go with a full onboard setup. I was just thinking an ARB mounted in the engine bay or trunk area. I only need air for filling tires, so I don't need the on-demand function that a tank provides.
Alright, I'm jealous. >:( I have my compressor mounted and tank mounted i just haven't wired and plumbed the bugger yet. I'm a little fuzzy on the pluming connections, where to get them and how to mount them. Very nice set up you got there. Hopefully by the next trip I can figure things out on my rig.

The last time I replaced some air fittings for the tank and plumbing in general, I went to Home Depot. They have a large variety of fittings to choose from.
While true, they get very expensive since they don't have harder to find fittings so you have to buy 2 or 3 pieces that eventually get to what you need.
Using 3 fittings at $4-$6 a fitting (HD pricing) to accomplish what one $3 part would have done from say Amazon, it really adds up quick!

I agree OBA is not a have to have, everyone has their own priorities for wants and needs.
For me the factory spare location and cubby under the cargo area were completely unused space so it seemed like a perfect location for an air setup and probably some house batteries in the future. A similar setup to SteveC's could be done with a smaller (or no) tank, still have the ports on the bumper and retain the factory spare if needed.
For some people it's more about convenience than overall speed, there's no reason you couldn't mount your current compressor somewhere and have an air coupler in the bumper or other convenient place. It would save you the hassle of having to pop the hood, attach power cables to the battery, then having to handle the burning hot compressor/hose into the little carry bag with not a whole lot of extra parts to buy. Still get all the ease of use/cool factor without all the cost and loss of space.
I permanently wired my dash cam so I don't have any wires hanging down.
Installed a ABS kill switch
Prey tell my dear JeffBett, what is this ABS killer you're talking about?

My mod for the weekend...
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
It's like Deja Vu ;)
Every time I see a set of these being installed, I'm sad that I have shrockworks sliders instead of WK.
I went out on a little ride and smashed up my stock step rails a little and tested out the new aluminum skid plates I put on. The skids are awesome!
I figured I would use and abuse the step rails a little before removing and putting on some proper sliders. Looks like White Knuckle is the fan favorite. Any other brands I should look at?
Hey, didn't I see this on another thread here >:DI must post them in multiple places because I'm overjoyed with finally having decent tires. O0
Just bustin' yer nuts. If I EVER buy NEW tires I will post photos on EVERY thread and open two new ones ::)
Lookin good Rick.
Wouldn't that be too much interweb for you Randy?zing....
Rick...finding those vinyl hood decals in blue/dark grey would look cool too. ;)Hmm, I should look into that...Yessir, Pro4X that originally came on the truck. They've been sitting in boxes since the weekend after I purchased the X.
Like the new wheels...Pro 4X?
I assume the extra damage from keeping them on is because they are not attached to the frame, correct? I guess I will remove them. Just hate to do a little sideways slide without something there. I was thinking until I get sliders they would be like bubble wrap. Slide and the step dents and not the rocker. Next slide the rocker gets it.
Been looking at the WK website. It's only a little more but is the DOM worth it? I'm far more overland than rock crawler. The reason I damaged my steps and hit my skids (rock crawling Coral Canyon) was because I've only had the Xterra trail ready enough less than a year and wanted to see what it's limitations are. I've found that often rocks get between me and where I'm going. So, I need to know when to turn around and when to go for it. I might slide on them a decent amount but rarely will I land hard on them. Pony up the extra $40?

Took the steps off.As I recall, the rear-most slider mount on the driver's side overlaps one of the skid plates (fuel tank?). You can notch it or just overlap it.
Made a mount for my traction boards
Going to order rock sliders tonight. On the drivers side the skid plates mount in places on the frame. Will I have to do any mods to get the sliders on?
As I recall, the rear-most slider mount on the driver's side overlaps one of the skid plates (fuel tank?). You can notch it or just overlap it.You are correct. I have yet to notch my skid, so I just removed those two mount bolts on the slider and bolted the skid down. Thank for reminding me that I need to cut the skid.

Pretty sure 750 lb.....my old brain forgets stuff....Wow you 2 are troopers ,I'm scared to take my skids off , I think ? What if they never fit back on :'(
We both drove it on the freeway yesterday. Didn't really notice any difference. A slight bit of body roll, but nothing freaky.
Right now Pepe is riding without the skid plates or the RTT. So it will be interesting if those 2 things change the overall feel without the sway bars in.
Also, removing both things has put the PEP back in PEPE!! >:D >:D

Wow you 2 are troopers ,I'm scared to take my skids off , I think ? What if they never fit back on :'(
the RTT will introduce a little more body roll in the turns, 150lbs on the roof will do that, but I bet you will still like it, the front suspension probably feels way better on bumps.
First time we've taken them off. But there was about 2 inches of Soda Lake mud on the inside of them..... even with all the pressure washings, boat ramp dunking, etc....
It was definitely time - needed to assess any rust issues - Soda Lake just provided the final straw. ;)
Yeah, but I'm hoping the skid weight will counter-balance the RTT ::) ::)I also have all of my skid plates off right now. I pressure washed the truck again after I got home on Tuesday after the trip. Then I ran it through the touchless the next day, mud was still coming off. Last Sunday, I dropped the skids and crawled (literally) under the truck the hose and sprayer and spent about an hour getting into the nooks and crannies. After that, I headed to the car wash, again, and spent 45 minutes under the truck with a pressure washer. I think I'm good now. I don't think I have mud left in the nooks.
Both you and Rick have that fancy Titan Swap, don'tcha? I'm assuming that stance helps with any body rolling..... too fancy and expensive for us po' folk.....
Edit: We don't need to worry about extending the brake lines with the front sway bar off, do we?!?!
I also have all of my skid plates off right now.
Finally upgraded my rear Bump Stop gameJay, those have been in my build thread for years now. What took you so long?!
Hello Timbren :D
Chris, your engine is cleaner than my truck!
Your whole rig looks great. Nice work.
test, android chrome seems to work...
have you tried the gallery?

Nice, did the install go easy? Not as bad as I expected
Atta Boy Jay! I knew you could do it.LOL
You can't put 130,000 miles on a Harley, and not have turned a few wrenches... Daily >:D
My Timbren rear bump stops arrived yesterday. I PB Blasted the bolts on my X last night, might install tonight or this weekend.best MOD ever
Had half a day all to myself....so I pulled the front tires, pulled the stock UCA's and threw on the SPC's. Easy peasy. Grinded down the coil buckets while I was in there. I was a little nervous about that, not knowing exactly how much to take off, but when you prefit the UCA's you can easily see where and just keep taking some off till full range of motion is contact free. Just drove it around the block and over some speed bumps at speed and no contact. I think I'm good to go. I have a world class alignment guy so I'll be there at 8am on Monday.

I also got some 1.5 inch spacers. I didn't install them as I didn't have time to deal with fender work and the SPC's. Thinking next weekend I'll really get into it and paint all the plastic...finish the wiring of all the new lights and do the spacers.

Wow those are really big spacers Chris.Very nice, can't wait to see them installed.
For me, I just picked up this little guy from Wilco at Santa Ana

People following me is going to finally stop telling me my spare tire is falling. Hahaha (it’s not)
This will run double duty between the dodge and the Frontier.
I still need to wire my own Lic plate mount/light and a beer bottle opener.

Nice! I have the same UCA and they gave me extra 2" of droop. Did you grease those bushings?
Wow those are really big spacers Chris.

Nice Bumper,
sorry about the KINGS ???
I am sending my Scangauge this week for an update, looking forward to getting temps.Yeah, it's definitely nice. I think I'm going to load up the TPMS gauges, too, just to have them on there. I think this would interesting to watch during road trips.
Just a tip, make sure to apply anti seize between the spacer and the rotor/hub.
Jay, you saved $150! PBRs all around ;DI had a buddy come over with his reading gizmo, Because my check engine light came on
Thanks for the Xterra PSA.
Never dealt with spacers in my whole automotive modding history and I always wondered, what torque specs are spacers done at? at mfg specs or your own specs? I can only assume, mfg specs and slightly more from spacer to wheel.
I removed my Radflo 2.5s, and I'm taking them to be rebuilt today. In the interim, I threw my stock coilovers back on, just so I can move the Xterra around and out of the garage if I need to...
That stance though..... don't be jealous of my rake. lol

Jayrat, the parts stores will all read engine codes for free as well. I have that same code, p0448 i believe on my blue X and Dave has it on his yellow X as well. He already tried the blowout method + extension and it helped for awhile and the code came back. The last run to the junkyards we both just bought newer complete canisters from newer street only Xterras to just swap the whole thing, $25.Jeff , what junkyard do you go to ??

Jay: Jeff is right on the free code reading. Thanks for the offer Randy , but I'll still get together For some PBR's
Plus you don't have to remove the fender, I've clean/checked mine three times. I would be happy to help for PBR.
Edit: It was bugging me that the legs were angled out. So I re brazed them the other way.
Little more ugly due to the left over solder but I think more secure
Feel a big difference in the drive? I need to pull the trigger on gears. It's a huge difference in driveability, especially while I'm still on 33's.
I went with The Retrofit Source kit. No projectors as I dont care for the way they look. If I were to do it again I'd go with the canbus kit as opposed to the motocontrol relay just for ease of installation.
We don't have a canbus headlight system so you either run relays or the motocontrol. Also the projectors are not for looks, it's to properly control the light output so you don't blind every other driver on the road around you.
Dont care about other people on the road. Maybe if they didnt make ugly ones I'd get a set.Your like one of those guys that drive around with Hi-Beams
Admittedly I didnt think of it until later. I probably will in the future.

Looks awesome Jordan. How much trimming did you have to do?
Decided to tackle the 1.5” wheel spacers today... …… Took my time and it turned out great. Minor trimming, heating and cutting but it was easier than I thought it would be. Nobody would ever know by looking at it. Just went over next-door to a empty parking lot and went over a bunch of curb stops at full lock left and full lock right...No rubbing!Oh yes. I put some 1.5” spacers on my baby too. Surprising how much of a difference in look and stance it makes. I love it. Yours look damn nice too.

Ouch, sorry to hear that. Trans work is never cheap.
I think the X should be savagely beaten on the trail as punishment :D .
Unfortunately, we are just heading into summer BUT weather guy says it will be cool this weekend.
I feel your pain, my X is stranded on a rack too. Eta to get mine back is July 2. So much for long weekend trip (I have Mon/ Tues. off).
Changed out my mirror for one with compass AND temp. Gentex 177....found it on eBay with plug and sensor for $35 shipped. SUPER easy install.

Chris, good find I want one!
A couple weekends ago, I visited the mecca of roof rack awesomeness with Steve C, and we spent some money (a lot). Like others who are running this front runner rack (PainRoller, Toro, etc.), the brackets will be modified to bring it closer to the roof and make it super low profile. Looking forward to getting this bad boy installed! (side note: my current aluminum replacement rack is now for sale... see the "garage sale" section if interested).Very nice! I knew you went there for more than just patches. O0
They're out there in eBay land.......I paid $30 and $5 shipping....including the wiring plug and temp sensor....my brother just got one two days ago.same thing but from someone else for $40 shipped. . So they ARE out there. Just make sure it includes the plug and temp sensor.
YO!!! Those are bright! Is it my monitor or are those orange???General Lee baby
Super cool!
Whatever you do, don't scratch 'em.LOL lol
Nice!
are those in case you flip over? so the search party can see you from the air?Exactly what i was thinking >:D
Since your south of the border, shouldn't they be bright green? :D

Our little boy is all grown up. :'(
Nicely done.
Looks good Steve! You went from an already awesome truck to full Beast Mode in just a couple months!
Spicy Beef...but, do you meet the requirements to be in the 35-ish" tire club? Those replies in that thread were killing me. It kinda brought out some a-holes that don't normally show their true colors. O0

lol. I'm having fun with it. I just made my own club (https://www.thenewx.org/forum/69-brakes-tires-wheels/270784-members-running-34-4-tires-tires-larger-than-33-but-not-larger-than-34-4-a.html).
I'm just waiting for a mod to delete the thread.
Anyways, the new wheels and tires really did a number for the over all look of the truck. I was telling Jordan that it makes everything a little more proportional.
J,
What size is that? And why did you pick the driver side as apposed to the passenger side?
Got my ARB awning mounted up to the new Front Runner rack
Nice work, Joe! What made you decide to replace the steering rack? Mine's at 130K and not feeling any sloppiness on steering yet. And I do need to replace my plugs soon.
It needs more stickers. Looks like a M/C lift that I bought while ago ;)LOL, lol All the cool kids are doing it

After wanting to install a service battery for years, I finally managed to get all the pieces together.
Without going into a long story, my group 31 Odyssey died while under warranty and they honored the warranty and replaced it for free.
Only catch was that the shop I bought it from, per Odyssey's procedure, required the battery be tested prior to authorizing the warranty claim.
With the X being my only car, I had to put a different battery in - I went with an X2Power Group 27F (https://www.batteriesplus.com/product-details/auto_light-truck/battery/x2power/sli27fagmdp)
(https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1024x768q90/923/WB8RK6.jpg) (https://imageshack.com/i/pnWB8RK6j)
(https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1024x768q90/923/dqnBQL.jpg) (https://imageshack.com/i/pndqnBQLj)
That happened in January.
I also installed a Ctek Battery-Sense (https://autoplicity.com/10509586-ctek-40149-battery-sense) monitor.
Then I started looking around on how to add a second battery. I ended up going the DC to DC charger route.
There are limited options available in the US, as we haven't quite caught up to the Aussie's or Euro-van people yet.
I chose the Ctek D250SA (https://autoplicity.com/11245714-ctek-40-186) as it was reasonably priced, could give the Odyssey the voltage it wants and it has a built in MPPT solar charge controller.
My automotive consultant, knightrider, and I decided the best place for the battery was behind the front passengers seat. The 40% split side of the rear seat is for the big fridge anyways, so that space was kind of a pit with the front seat slid back.
I got a battery box from Amazon and we installed the battery into it and the DC to DC charger on the side.
Not the best photos as I didn't take any during the install. But, you get the idea.
Battery - Odyssey (http://www.odysseybatteries.com/batteries/pc2150mst.htm) 31M PC2150ST

I went with this panel from Renogy as it fit nicely on the front runner rack.

So, that's about it for my recent electrical upgrades.
I do have plans to make a few additions.
First, I'm going to put some lugs on the side of the battery box so that I can, if I had to, jump start the starting battery from the aux battery. I didn't find the need or have the desire to run a separate wire up to the starting battery and install a switch and all that. Jumper cables will work fine.
Second, we're going to install a branch on the solar input wire so that if I'm parked under trees for an extended period of time, I can run my solar suitcase panels with the 25ft extension I have for it.
Last, I have a Ctek battery-sense monitor for the aux battery - it just hasn't arrived yet.
Pretty excited how it all turned out!
A Center console fridge is like a hooker on speed dial. Some things, shouldn't be that convenient ::)
BTW, I like all of your electrical choices, and common sense wiring. Well done Sparky
Our alternators are "smart" which means they won't give the Odyssey the 14.8v it wants to fully charge and be happy... my Odyssey group 31m died... you're going to need an additional power source.
I would suggest buying a minimum 100w all in one solar set up from a company like Renogy.
That is one of the most impressive things I've seen in a long time. You had me at 100ah and then you finished with shore power. Awesome!
is there some kind of protection system in place to prevent the cells from over-charging or discharging too much? From what I am reading, they seem to be pretty sensitive to discharging below 2.5v, or charging above 3.5v, which seems like a very small range to work within. I would imagine the DC to DC charger handles the over-charging piece, but what about discharging too low? Does that damage the cells and make then unusable?
how is the power distributed from this aux setup to your accessories?
how durable are the LiFePo batteries?
My first question is related to charging and discharging: I don't have much knowledge of LiFePo batteries, but I've heard a lot of horror stories about LiPo batteries, and have even seen first hand many fires caused by them (mostly remote controlled car batteries or motorcycle batteries that people are charging unobserved in their garages, which ultimately overcharge and start on fire). But a quick Google search seems to indicate that these are not the same technology and not nearly as prone to fires, but they still suffer from some of the same disadvantages as other lithium batteries. My question is: is there some kind of protection system in place to prevent the cells from over-charging or discharging too much? From what I am reading, they seem to be pretty sensitive to discharging below 2.5v, or charging above 3.5v, which seems like a very small range to work within. I would imagine the DC to DC charger handles the over-charging piece, but what about discharging too low? Does that damage the cells and make then unusable?
Which leads me to the second question: how is the power distributed from this aux setup to your accessories? I presume, since you are running the DC to DC charger, that the batteries themselves are completely isolated from the vehicle's main 12V circuit? If so, does that mean you can't ground any of the accessories connected to this circuit to the vehicle's body? Sorry if that sounds like a dumb question, but I've never really understood how a completely isolated aux power circuit works within a vehicle setup, as it's different than simply adding a separate battery and using a solenoid to make sure they run in parallel while the vehicle is on (and therefore both charge from the alternator), but are isolated when the car is off. I have a lot of lights and other accessories set up to run while the vehicle is either on or off, and I'm trying to determine if that means I'd have to re-run a lot of my wiring to this new setup if I go with something like this.
Final question: how durable are the LiFePo batteries? Can they handle the abuse of off-roading (especially washboard roads) like the AGM stuff can? If so, these seem like an amazing solution for many automotive applications! I've gotten very lucky and gotten great service out of my little 37 amp hour Optima yellow top that I use as my second battery, but it's definitely not going to last forever, and I would LOVE to upgrade to something with this kind of capacity.
Trouble is, as the pipe dream grows, this project is rapidly getting more and more expensive! lol
Isolated 12v systems only need to be separate on the positive side, ground is ground and can be shared.
DC-DC charging is no different than if you had a 2 batteries with a solenoid connecting them in parallel which is honestly never a good idea.
A DC-DC charger is basically the same thing as the solenoid, it has the advantage that it can properly charge the aux battery with appropriate voltage and maintenance charge. If you have lights that are connected to your aux battery through an aux fuse panel, then you already have 2 isolated systems. The solenoid just joins those 2 isolated systems when activated to charge the lower voltage battery somewhat.
I see this topic getting some discussion so I may split it into another thread.
Nworker, one thing i would change would be to run the 4ga ground to the body ground just behind the battery instead of directly to the negative terminal on the battery That way the ECU will see the draw through the clamp that is on the negative battery cable and ramp up the voltage output of the alternator, replacing the factory negative cable through the clamp to the body ground is also a good idea with as big a cable as you can fit through the clamp.
I spoke with Renogy last week and they said they were very close to releasing a DC-DC charger with built in MPPT solar controller, I am waiting for that to do a similar LifePo4 setup.
Hmm... not so much. This is where the RV community and boating community have been partying for many years. An isolated system, in the context of what I am talking about is a separate grounds for each source. In this thread, which I found useful to respond to my son who advocates isolated or independent grounds, is relatively short and has a good overview:Boats and RV's are a little bit different animal as they have various voltages and also AC and DC systems, you can definitely run into problems in that situation. I have never seen any advantage to running separate grounds in a dual 12v system.
I don't agree. If the DC-DC charger is putting out a constant voltage it would be the same, I wouldn't go through the effort to purchase one of those opting for a three stage DC-DC charger. Here is a nice video on the subject (I run the video at 1.75x or 2x cuz I'm impatient):I was speaking very simplified and more from a wiring layout perspective, trying to point out to Joe that a DC-DC charger could be implemented very easily in his setup with the DC-DC charger in a wiring diagram would take the place of the solenoid.
When I installed the 270A Rugged Rocks alternator, I used #2 wire to ground the battery to the chassis and block. It was a bear getting the cable through the Hall sensor for the VVCS, which is useless with a 'dumb' alternator. Great if you stick with the standard alternator. I did a lot of research and the solution really is to disengage the VVCS by removing the Hall sensor making the 'smart' alternator stay in the high voltage state.I agree the hall sensor is a pain with #2 cable, and didn't realize you had the RR alternator. disabling the variable voltage is a cheap fix, but i love my great fuel mileage :D 12mpg
That would be really good and eliminate one of the three devices in the trunk. Renogy is good. The problem for me is that they have fixed charge profiles. I love the ability to change the charge profiles in the Victron. Right now, Renogy has a 15% off sale. For my setup, I purchased the 40A version. Hey big is always good! Not necessarily. I recommend getting the 20A which saves $80. Oh and the manual has a typo regarding the dip switch settings as explained above.I too wish there were more affordable options, i dislike that the renogy unit does not have a user setting like the victron units. I also don't like that the renogy unit does not have a voltage sensing algorithm to automatically turn off/on, it requires 12v signal to turn on. i think the DC-DC/solar unit might but the tech guys were not forthcoming with much info on it. I got to play with the Ctek 250SA that I installed in Steve's truck and although it has fixed charge profiles, it has one to match the odyssey profile so it works well for his setup. I also like that it will trickle charge the starting battery from solar when the house battery is full and floating but no lithium profile :(
I love the Victron app, which is so wonderful given their products have Bluetooth integrated. I talked to Victron about adding the ability to run the alternator/battery lead in (not that much different than a solar panel you know being DC and all). There response was, "we are not in that market". Nothing like a short sighted or mi-optic view of your product's market.
My dream solution is a system capable of taking AC shore power, DC alternator power, and Solar (or wind) power in one easy package. That is why I like the Redarc Manager 30:

But at $1,200 for the Redarc Manage 30, I think I came up with a reasonable three input system: AC/DC/Solar for my system using wasted space for less than the price of the Redarc Manage 30.
I got to play with the Ctek 250SA that I installed in Steve's truck and although it has fixed charge profiles, it has one to match the odyssey profile so it works well for his setup. I also like that it will trickle charge the starting battery from solar when the house battery is full and floating but no lithium profile :(
I would not use a MPPT solar controller for alternator input, very different output coming from the alternator than solar panels, the controller would probably not know what to do with an already regulated output from the alternator but i have also wondered how long it will take them to get into the all in one market like redarc.
Shoved a deep cycle battery in there (https://m.youtube.com/watch?NICE >:D

Okay the LiFePO installation continues with refinements. This morning I mounted two 100W solar panels to the top of the Roof Top Tent.

I cleaned the back of the panels and roof top with alcohol. Then I prepped the surface with adhesive promoter:

To attach the panels to the roof, I chose Scotch Mount Moulding Tape:

I aligned and put down the panels. One the leading edge I used Flex Tape, I swear the stickiest stuff on the planet.

So have I been living under a rock. I was getting some under cabinet lights. And came across this.
Now I have one of these in my fridge to let me know if the temp goes up.
