I found this link to some really reasonably priced maps and thought I would pass it along for anyone interested. The site is pretty extensive and they seem to be about $3.50-$4.00 range.

For you kids out there, a 'map' shows you where stuff is, and some times where you are, when you batteries go dead on your phone or I pod thingy.
They're not as 'hip' but they're very manly.  You can amaze women anywhere...just by reading a map in front of them.  They'll think that you are magical ;)

Next maybe I'll break a compass and a protractor and start talking about intersection and resection with declination angles....

That's an awesome link Erik...thanks man, I'm going to grab a couple of the areas listed...and only $3???  Nice.

To Randy's point, the ability to spread a map out and share logistics/intel on the hood of your rig with a group can be invaluable.

Like you said, maps never need batteries... :D

For the technically inclined, I use California Trail Maps. It's an offline GPS file that you can subscribe to each year, and can load it on a phone or portable GPS unit.  So far I've used it every trail that I've been on minus Cerro Gordo(apparently that area is considered Central California). With the app I use on my phone, I'm able to record trips.  I recorded the winter Mojave run, and would feel confident in running it on my own now.  Hard copy maps are always great, but technology is so much easier!

You're right....Just imagine me holding a futuristic calculator that uses the stars to tell me where to go...and only I can read it.

Nice! I'm thinking I'm going to get them all too. I have been starting a large folder with all my maps that I can get into for each trip I take and pull out the specific map. I know a lot of these guys like their electronic gadgets and so forth but I'm just more comfortable putting a map down to plot my route. The contour lines and larger area around where you are travelling or intending to do so just works gooder for me.
