After numerous changes, three in total, to the front and rear suspensions and even some interior and exterior parts doh! – Dirt King and I have gotten to know the ins-and-outs of the D40 suspension platform pretty well, along with the mudslide of miscellaneous bits and pieces that one can run into on these builds. She's a wabi-sabi inspired build for sure, but its good to have character...
Feel free to hmu with any questions, as I’ll have plenty of my own (mostly electronics), when I start piecing everything back together in around two weeks time to get her running and roadworthy again.
I look forward to trading info with you all in keeping our trucks in tiptop form along with traversing some dirt miles in the near future.

Sweet ride! I'll definitely be hitting you up. My build is not nearly as extensive as yours but I do have questions about your rear. Can't wait to see your rig in person.

Jeez Paul....couldn't wait until the guy meets a few of us before going there?!?!?
Sheesh!

Thanks for delivering on the photos. There's a sh** load of nice custom welding going on there. Great work!

Comin' from a fronty girl at heart that is saying a lot.
Nice Rig. I am amazed at the welding. Please give us some more shots of the front end please.

***what everyone else said***

Thanks everyone. Here's a few cell pics I have of the front-end. Keep me posted if there's anything specific anyone is curious about.

Did you build the custom steering knuckles?
-
Look like dirt king knuckles.

That is a sweet setup. I am curious, on those front Kings are they just regular 2.5x8 with a long lower stem to clear the cv axle?
-

knightrider is correct. These are Dirt King's Titan fabricated uprights, which is based off of stock dimensions so they can pretty much fit anything that utilizes the stock spindles.

Yes, King and most other off-road shock manufacturers can set you up with longer rod-ends for clearance issues, etc...

Good to know. I hope to get to see this truck in person one day, I've always loved prerunners.

Awesome build, just saw some of this pictures on dirt kings Instagram.. We need to have lunch on me some time, you did something similar to someone I know is doing.. Would be great to talk.
-
You're ridiculous. Get to class!
Can't wait to go for a ride!
-
Ya do you know if dirt king makes bumpers for frontiers?
-
I bet that's fun on the jumps!
-
Very nice build. Is that a Currie rear end on there? And do you have a better pic of the 3rd member? The Hi-9 doesn't look very...........well....Hi.
-
Lookin' good Joseph!
-
With it that low in the back, are you worried the rear tires will hit the bed?

bumpstops, BRAH! 8)
-
yea i guess there could be that, haha. its probably not even that close, this thing is just a beast so it makes the gap look less than it really is. im jealous.
-
SICK !!! 8)
-
The back was cycled with the bed on to clear at full stuff and articulation, using bump stops as Steve said and to help limit the springs from going into. The bedsides, however, are another story. We will have to pull it out and possibly do some trimming, though there is such thing as self clearing if I let it hit enough.

You running a titan rear or 6 on 5.5 adapters on your frontier rear to somewhat match width and change bolt pattern?

I think it's a Titan rear end from Currie.

Steve, I'd be interested to know if his emergency brake is functional. I hear the titan brake lines are too long and won't engage the e-brake. If you can find out, that'd be great.
-
My e-brake isn't functional, but it's definitely on the bucket list of things I want to work. And yeah it's a full replacement 6x5.5 axles in there. Two things to note when you order yours is to make sure Currie installs the correct lugs out back. On mine they are way too short and are 12.5 pitch lugs instead of the stock Titans 12x1.25 pitch threads.
-
Lemme know how you resolve the e-brake situation.
-
I'm leaning on using this unit to rectify the e-brake problem. Preferably, I'd use a hydraulic one like they use on drift cars, but I'm still up in the air about it.

I've also been tinkering with it here and there so here's some small updates.

So she sat on the back burner for a better part of a year lol, but we're back charging and getting some of clean-up work done. It's been said 90 percent of the work is on the last 10 percent of the job so it's actually been a tough road sourcing out the last minute parts. However, here's some of the progress. The panels will be bead bead rolled and the edges radius, then we tear everything apart for powdercoat , etc... sigh
