Hit a local trail today, SAS was well worth it. Found a weak point. Stock wagoner steering components not up to par. I Will have to swap with 1 ton TRE and DOM tubing.

Picked up a Tx10 from an 88 Pathfinder.

Plan: Rebuild internals and install AC crawler gears, then swap out the Xterra Tx10.

Why? 88 Pathfinder Tx10 has a larger stronger chain than a 04 Xterra Tx10. Stock to stock nearly twice as strong. Will be easier to work on the 88 Tx10 than to remove the 04 Tx10 and work on it. Once 88 Tx10 is ready, will do the swap. (was told they share the same exterior housing and will bolt in the same)

Will be a slow process, but hey its a start in the right direction.

I finally got around to redoing my storage area.
All credit goes to sionnach from clubxterra.org for designing the box. (http://www.clubxterra.org/forums/showthread.php?t=36778 )
His write up and pdf made this project very simple. Although some knowledge on cabinet work is needed along with proper tools.
From beginning to end, the project took me approximately 36 hours of labor over 6 days.

Thanks to Ruination Fan I was able to get my snorkel installed. Thank you Ruination Fan for mailing me your template. Good Karma has been sent.

K/N Apollo used. Apollo offers a K/N cone filter which is fully enclosed and protected.

Thanks to DannyX and Xterra Performance I added Xterra Rear Window Metal Molle covers. http://www.xterraperformance.com/2000-2004-Xterra-Rear-Window-Metal-Molle-cover-_p_164.html . I added some khaki paint to go with the rig and then it was a very quick install. 3 screws per side and 1 zip tie per side.

I will be attaching pouches soon to the covers, working on configuration.

Christmas came early this year. Just ordered crawler gears from AC.

Opened the 88 Tx10, looks brand new. I dont think the previous owner ever even put it in 4x4 and man the size of that chain. All connectors appear to swap over, might just lose my 4x4 dash light.

two options: 1. Atlas transfer case with the available adaptor plates. 2. Perhaps a divorced transfer case to mount behind your current case.

Terry, you should ask Deadpilot about his Divorced NP 205 swap. The 205 has a 3.1 reduction gear set available.

Xterra pinion fix
For the past couple 4x4 trips I had noticed a noise coming from my front drive shaft and that I was going through U joints rather quickly. After talking with The King we noticed the pinion angle was not set up correctly for the SAS. The pinion was parallel with the output of the T case. This is correct if you

Just Khaki and black rattle can. But I did use a clear coat this time. Paint was flat and clear was matte but Rig still looks shinny. I kept it Khaki for you tho

Poison Spyder Louver added:

Designed for a jeep so a couple inches from the top were cut off as well as room made for the wind shield sprayers.

Modify the template to fit the new louver. Tape the louver on the hood where you want it. Use an auto center punch to mark the centers of where you will cut holes. Then cut the holes with a hole saw. Trace around the holes to mark where to cut out hood sections for the louver vents.

Cut out the sections with an angle grinder and then add some primer to prevent rust.

Very nice.  A little warning. I put my hood louver on about 5 years ago, couldn't be happier.  I used the spray on textured paint and within a year it started pealing.  Found out the louver is aluminum and does hold paint well.  Now it has several chunks missing.  I've been meaning to take it off and have it powder coated (recommended by Poison Spider), but I'm just too lazy to go through the effort.

I know the feeling. On that trip I made my way up the mountain from the south side and got to the top on skyline. It was deserted and no one around, no vehicle tracks or footprints. Just 4-5 inches of fresh powder. So we drove around and enjoyed ourselves. When we continued north into big bear we discovered why we had the place to ourself and were stuck behind a locked gate on the big bear side. Fortunately I found a friendly jeeper who was working at the near by Girl Scout camp. He had a key and let me out.

We were staying up there for the weekend. I tried to hit at least a dozen trails from the top only to discover every single one had a locked gate. :(

Yea that sucks. The guy who let me out and worked up there told me, during the winter they lock all gates that lead to snow.
