Title: New from Anaheim Hills
Post by: Adio. on April 24, 2013, 07:40:48 PM
Hey guys how's it going?

Purchased a 2011 Xterra S 4x4 at the end of March and so far I'm loving it! Can't wait to start modding it.

Here are the mods I've planned so far.

2-3in Suspension lift with Bilstein 5100s all around.
Shrockworks front and rear bumper
Skids
Volant CAI
Catback Exhaust

When the time comes for new tires, I'll just go with a whole new set of tires and wheels.

So far I've taken it through Silverado, the Bedford truck trail (great little spot to camp on the side of it maybe halfway up the hill?) and through the riverbed in Trabuco.

edit: had to re-size pictures, which my computer doesn't wanna do right now lol, will get the rest back up tomorrow.

Great, another rare Lava rig!  Welcome to the club Adio.  We got a lot of good guys over there in OC.
Most of us started with rock sliders for protection as a first mod.  Look around the site and you will get lots of ideas.
We'll see ya on the trail ;D

Totally forgot to add those to the list! My mom has constantly complained about the height difference compared to the murano lol, not sure how much the sliders will help her since I'll probably order some from shrockworks for a 2-3in lift.

Welcome from Orange County.

And just a note, the "shrockworks sliders with the 2-3 inch lift option" are just if you are doing a body lift not a suspension lift.   If you are doing only a suspension lift, get the "No lift or suspension lift only" option

If I plan on adding bigger tires, maybe 32s or 33s somewhere down the line won't I need a body lift?

265's are technically 32's (I THINK)

285's are 33's (AGAIN, I THINK)

either will fit under stock wheel wells with a tiny bit of rubbing; to fix that, head on over to

thenewx.org, then search for 'melt mod'

I'm definitely going to do that melt mod instead of spending more money on a body lift.  Either today or tomorrow im gonna do the rear differential breather mod.

Welcome from Pasadena.
You don't need a body lift to run 33's on a GenII. You can run 33's (285/75/16) with only the melt mod.

Interesting....I've heard about this and met a guy from TNX who had his done and the breather was in a tail-light.

Is this really that needed?

Only if you spend time with your axle under water and the check valve doesn't work.  IMHO I did not worry about the little water crossings we did in Mojave. (That's why I drove through them so fast :D)  I'm sure others can chime in with there experiences

Awesome!  My mod list looks a lot like yours (I'm going the Hefty route for bumpers)

The Lava really is a great color.  Goes well with dirt!

There are two problems people have with the stock breather:

1. Water can easily get in there if the axle is submerged,  since there is no hose on it like the front diff.

2. The valve can get clogged up and pressure or vacuum can build up inside the axle causing the seals to leak.

If you don't do too many water crossings, and check your valve regularly to make sure it's not clogged or stuck, then you shouldn't have too much of a problem. Doing the mod is real easy though, you just screw in a different connector and run a rubber hose up somewhere higher (doesn't have to be behind the tail light).

The pins represent the general area where we were off roading.

Pretty much sums up why I'm doing it, not that ill be that deep in water anytime soon but I just don't want it to get clogged.

Also it's cheap and easy to do, although I just went to pep boys and they had no 3/8 air hose...

http://www.thenewx.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22835

I'm pretty much going off of this for mine.

Edit: just got back from auto zone now and they tried to sell me fuel line instead of air hose at $5 a foot compared to $1 for the air line.... Onto ace!

I used Nissan part # 38323-C601A for the new breather rather than modifying the stock one. That makes it even easier.

Looks like I'm heading over to stadium Nissan tomorrow then.

Where did you put the line? Into the tail light?

Yeah, it's pretty easy to remove the tail light and push it up in there, so might as well.

Cool, Apparently stadium Nissan has nothing to do with the E-store, yet they still label parts for pickup from them on the website. I got there today to pick up my part, and they told me even though I have a confirmation number and everything they can't do anything because they don't use the e-store anymore and don't even have the part.

Thanks for the help man, they called and said they'll have my part in tomorrow morning so it's all good now. I'll definitely keep that info for next time I need a part though.
