I thought I would post up a few pics from some recent trips to Anza Borrego Desert State Park. This is a perfect time to be out there, not only do you get to see the amazing geology of this huge state park, but there are lots of wildflowers and cactus in bloom right now.
I'll start off with a few from Sandstone Canyon taken Tuesday 3/23/10:
You can't see it well in the picture, but that is the moon rising up over that cholla cactus on the left side of the frame.
That big rock in the middle of the canyon was not there when passed though here back in November of 2009. There is just enough room to pass by it.
The cactus are blooming very nicely off of Old Kane Springs Road and Harper Canyon right now. It will probably be a few more weeks for the higher elevations like Blair Valley. These were taken on 3/23 as well.
The very high rainfall levels this season has made the ocotillo bloom spectacular.
The late afternoon sun and a long lens can make for some nice shots of backlit cholla cactus.
Looking down into Borrego Mountain Wash near The Slot. We drove through that wash in mid-February; this was taken on 3/21 from Borrego Mountain Road.
The lupine are looking pretty good up along Borrego Mountain Road and Buttes Pass Road.
It's even nice out there when it rains. Take from Fonts Point on 3/7/10.
A bright spot in the middle of a grey day, at 17 Palms Oasis during a light rain on 3/7.
