Upgrades

I went down to http://www.weldtecdesigns.com/shop/ today to get the four point restraints finalized in my CJ-5 build. They built my rear bumper/tire carrier for my X and the cage in the CJ-5. They did a great job and was well pleased. I need to have the crossbar powder coated but that's about it. What impressed me the most was the FJ build they had going and the Toyota mini truck build. Yes that's a 350 engine in the Toyota with custom built headers, that sucker is gonna scream across the desert.

The FJ is getting a full race crew/engine race cage and solid body frame mounts to include motor mounts. It's being set up to race and is pretty impressive to see the work involved. Got me thinking about our X's and the possibilities. These guys can fabricate just about anything up so it opens up the market a little more than going with the limited stock available designs. Super cool stuff going on and it reminded me that there are lots of options available out there. It's just a matter of coming up with ideas and moving them from design to use. Even if you aren't looking at modifications stop by Jeremy's shop and see what he has going on.

Love that bumper on the FJ.

Too bad they're so far away.
Be careful when you follow the masses..... sometimes the "M" is silent.

Yeah it is too bad it's such a jaunt for you. If you are ever in that part of the world stop by and check out that shop. It really is pretty neat just to go see it. Besides all the trucks in there being built he's got a bunch of vintage gas pumps and oil cans from throughout the years.

Dig this thread...lots of Toyota love.

On that "note," check out this "exhaust note" and then head over to AA and read this thread:  Tango Blue - Past the Point of No Return

He put a ton of work into that Taco, amazing amount of flex. That re-wire looks like a nightmare..... I need to re-wire my CJ5 eventually and as simple as that should be, well you know the drill.........

Wiring is easy, most modern engines have separate harness for the engine and chassis so swapping a motor is easier as you only need to provide the engine harness with power.  Getting gauges and whatnot is sometimes a little harder but seems like the GM mill is playing well with the toyota quite well.

What I'm planning on doing is getting a Painless Loom and go from there. I still need to figure out if I have a rear tank sending unit or not address that. I have a few other things I need to wire for such as a winch and OBA setup and upgraded interior lighting. I would like to do everything myself but I think I would be tackling something that I'm certainly not qualified for.

Painless kits are perfect for your cj5, just figure how many circuits you need and order up.  I've rewired 2 vehicles with Painless kits.

Great news thanks, if you show up at the food trucks I might have some more questions about it all.

Ya know...read through that thread now twice, and he didn't build it to be a rock crawler  :o

And yes, the wiring raised my blood pressure for sure, but the guys that own that fab shop back in Virginia seem to really know their isht.  Not only the electrical mastery (getting the LS7 to play nice with all of the Toyota electronics) but the custom bracketry inside the engine compartment is just amazing Erik.  :D
