The kids sports seasons finally ended and I had my 1st chance to work on the trailer.

I decided to keep the original design and welded it all up. I still need to triangulate the tounge and run some lateral supports.....but it's finally started.

I was able to chop the last bits for the trailers frame. My saw can't cut over 55deg and only in one direction so I eye balled the front triangle. Came out pretty freakin good. 2 Cross supports, per side, for the bed will also be added.
Here's a mock up of half the trailer.

Tack welding, leaf springs and final measuring next.
Full weld and attaching the axel is around the corner.
     I'm getting pretty excited.

In case anyone was wondering....a cover for a full size Suburban fits well on a dressed up X.

True but if you pull that cover off you can come down this way and get it all dirty....

As most know....

Chunks fished out of diff fluid.

The King and I tore her apart.

Pinion gear was good.

Ring gear is good

Found 1 busted spider on each side. 2 busted gears.

The previous diff had some custom machining done to fit (at the time) a unique gear. A Jeep gear.
So the new gear wouldnt just drop onto the new diff. We took the new diff apart.....

........and put the new one on  the lathe.

Got it all squared away and set up. Backlash is good!

All dialled in and ready to rock!

This was a catastrophe avoided due to proper maintenance. Stay on top of your rig...or under your rig...especially if you wheel hard.

Special thanks to The King for squeezing my in  at the last moment and teaching me all along.
To Terry for helping me locate this diff on short notice.        Its his old diff after all 😉
......and to Steevo from RuggedRocks who had my ass in a vice....could have sold me a new ARB and axel shaft, and chose to save me some coin. Always a class act that Steevo

I'm glad you found that because I'm pretty sure tomorrow somewhere around that gate keeper we all would of heard that dreaded loud bang noise coming from that differential.
