Holiday Party
« on: October 29, 2008, 02:12:54 PM »
Is there any interest in having a holiday party?  If so, any suggestions, offers, or input?

I like the idea of a holiday party.  My house is a bit small, or I would offer to host.  But, if nothing better comes along, we can have it at my place (San Diego, near Poway).

In past years there was talk of meeting at some centally located restaurant, or a park or campground. We could even combine it with a short run, so that we are out of the trucks and socializing by lunch time. Someplace with some facilities would be nice, to encourage spouses and kids etc. that might not otherwise attend.

A few years ago we had the party at a business location, on a Sunday. That worked well because we had the streets to ourselves, no parking problems, and lots of space. That particular spot is no longer available, but maybe we can find something similar.

As much as I hate to drive there, someplace around Riverside would probably be pretty centrally located for the club. Does anyone know of a spot around there that might work? But then again, Mitch has a pool at his house.

I've got a fair sized house in Capistrano Beach.  Have you guys done Christmas parties in the past?  If so, how many people have turned out for it?

I think it should be done in a public area where we can see all our rigs and BBQ.

Anyone know of any good parks?

There's a place in Capistrano Beach that used to be called "Hole in the fence beach."  Obviously, it at the beach but it's got lots of fire pits and parking right next to the pits.  It's a part of Dohney State Park.  It's open until 10 pm for most of the year.  I think parking is about $8.

How about Fiesta Island by Mission Bay? Plenty of room to park the trucks next to the waters and fire pits galore... best of all... free parking!

You can bring a kayak, jetski, etc. and play volleyball and what not...

Isn't that in New Zealand?

Ok, unless someone is willing to organize something else, the holiday party will be at my house on December 13th, that is a Saturday, a week from this Saturday.  It will be pot luck so post up what you're bringing.  If time and weather permit, a night run to Joshua Tree NP via Berdoo Canyon could be in the offering.  All I ask is no alcohol please.  BTW, Dan, this is not "clothing optional."
I'd rather be happy than right any day.

I would like to applaud Mitch for stepping up to host this event and also say that due to the severe constraints placed upon its attendees I will not be able to join the other club members for this joyous celebration.  I will be attending a clothing optional gig at my boss's house instead.
I eat other peoples food.  It's a sickness.
