wow, how much did that set you back?

Actually not that bad.  Less than 500 for the AED.  Its a re-certified one that I got from THIS website. Great people and easy to deal with. I've seen them as low as 350ish.  I got a few other things so about 700ish out the door for my unit, the pads, a hard case, and a battery that is good for 4 years.

I want you with me John....

LOL, any time Terry, you know me.  You just need to call and I just need to be in town... :P

That's one serious first aid kit!

Heh, thanks. Over 9 years of SAR in my history.  You can take the dog outta SAR, but can't take the SAR outta the dog. Right Shiloh? :P

I had been toying with the idea of getting an AED (which yes, made my wife roll her eyes) for some time, but an incident that happened last year while I was working the "Kids On Public Land" event cemented my decision to get one.  One of the drivers in a group was out on the trail and started having chest issues and going south.  He pulled over and transferred the kid to another vehicle and the tailgunner stopped to check on him.  He was waving other vehicles past him in true "Oh I'm fine" fashion outside his vehicle when the tailgunner got to him.  Apparently he had been treated for heart issues in the past (which none of us knew about).  By pure dumb luck I had decided to follow the group up the trail to show my wife it since she would be driving it the next day.  I pulled up as this all was happening and as I looked out my window he dropped.  Fortunately not the kinda drop that makes for singing "stayin alive" but still in a bad bad way.  We got him evacuated off the trail in another vehicle and Fire/EMS met him at the road and took care of him.  This was the 2nd cardiac event I had been involved with in as many years up here.  Once just helping out on ham radio, and this one playing medic support until our RN (who is always out with a group on the trail) took over and escorted him out, letting me go back to the trail and taking over as tail gunner.

I figure if I have the gear and am prepared, then "Murphy" will leave us all the heck alone.  If someone does need it... well... :)

(My Favorite is this one however...)

The Mojave Road trip has motivated us to take care of things that we've been meaning to do:
- Replace seals in the transfer case drive shaft
- Paint all the tow shackles
- Sand stock wheels of numerous scrapes and dents
- Primer and paint stock rims semi-gloss black
- Remove, sand, re-paint, and reinstall the rocker rails and radiator skid plate
- Replace the 8-year fogged-out headlights with brand new ones
- Install CB radio and antenna
- Install shocks on the rear hatch door
- Install the Maggiolina Air Top tent that arrives tomorrow!!

If time permits...
- Rewire the off-road lights that were stolen some months ago
- Install and wire winch with synthetic line
- Repaint the white paint that is chipping around the windshield

Looking forward to this trip in a few weeks!!!

So why the replacement?  Something wrong with the original?
