Title: CANVAZ II CAMPERS
Post by: xxSVxx on October 01, 2012, 01:14:21 PM
Hi :)

My name is Christiaan.  My tag on this site is xxSVxx

I will be camping Fri and Sat night for Canvaz II.

I'm starting this thread so we can all get an idea as to who is camping and where abouts you plan on camping.  I've commented on a thread over at thenewx.org and stated over there that I'm camping to people looking for others, etc....

I'll be driving up from San Clemente that Friday afternoon and I anticipate getting to BB around 6ish...

Yellow post sounds good to me; as long as I can have a fire and a semi-flat spot to pitch my tent I'll be a very happy camper.  Pun completely intended.  :P

Post if you're camping; please include when you anticipate getting to BB....a site name/number if possible.

Let's get this thread going!!!  Can't freakin wait!!!

Well being that I'm brining my wife and tator tot, we were looking into the Serrano Campground. They have fire rings, flush toilets and showers. Roughing it I know, but the place is nice and the kids can ride bikes or scooters too. It's close to lake and a short drive to the meet spot. I think its $25 a night. 35 for a double spot, that includes two vehicles and up to 8 people. Plenty of shade too, but we'll all be out during the day so not a big issue.  We may get a single spot with room for 2 tents. A second vehicle would then be $5 extra if someone wants to split the costs to keep it cheap. I get off work at 430 on Friday but should be there by 7ish Friday night.

I'll be camping and its just me for this run and Im off all day and will be coming up from Fallbrook so I can head up anytime. Im open to any place but the Serrano Campground sounds abit nicer. I've done the wild camp thing and been deployed so some simple things like a flushing tolet sounds nice lol

I'm down to camp were the majority of the campers are going to be.  Drinking alone is a sign that your an alcoholic, so I try to keep it social.  I think it would be great to keep all the campers together, can share campsites to save a few bones and would think it would help with the comaraderie of members to include spouses and chitlins if were are all together.  Nothing like sharing a meal, beer and conversastion around a campfire to bring people together.

Anybody know the altitude of Serrano?  A stayed at Barton Flats at the end of May, and all week the temps stayed in the lower 60's at night all week.  First night up there and the weather turned on us and dropped to 28f.  That was a cold night.  The chihuahua earned his place that night by sleeping in the foot of my sleeping bag, kept the toes from freezing off.

Well then I'll make sure I bring extra... ;D

I'll call the park today and see if I can't get a few sites reserved for our  group. How many vehicles so far?

Give me your totals, vehicle & people so I can get an accurate count. I'll see if I can book them but somebody will have to check in on Friday early in the day and save me a spot, since I won't be up there til 7ish.

I'll try get doubles and singles next to each other to keep the costs as low as possible. Let me know if you already have an idea if you want to share a spot with specific member/family.

Yeah, give it a little....there's a few guys on thenewx.org that were asking about camping, so I'm going to try to get them to post on this thread so we can get a bigger group together....because bigger is always better ;)~

For me:

- 1 rig
- 5 people (2adults/3children)
- 1 circus tent

I could probably volunteer to be up there early on Friday.  I should be getting that day off.

I was gonna yellow post, but the girl might like flush toilets over my coleman flusher in a shower tent, so count me in. 1 vehicle, 2 people, no tent.  We sleep in my X.

Question, why 3 nights?  Holiday weekend?  Friday night =1 Saturday night =2.  Instead of one person having to pay more for the single, why not just split the total amongst all of us.  I personally will pay more so no one person has to be singled out.
Title: Re: CANVAZ II CAMPERS

why 3 nights?
Title: Re: CANVAZ II CAMPERS
Post by: Lava on October 02, 2012, 08:01:02 PM
SORRY, for some reason I was counting Sunday too, since they charge per day. (Long Day at Work  :o) I'm good with splitting the costs up evenly amongst the group as well, if that's the agreement. Or I'll pay for the single and let everyone else save a few $$.

So, its two days. Fri/Sat. Check in at 2pm on Fri and check out by noon, Sunday.

Even better pricing.  :)

Double Site #73 & #74  $56 per night, plus $10 for two extra rigs, 4 rigs total. $66 x 2 = $132 / 4 rigs = $33 per rig

Single Site #75 $28 per night, plus $5 for extra rig, 2 rigs total. $33 x 2 = $66 / 2 rigs = $33 per rig (if 6 of us go) otherwise if 5 of us go, and we split the total, its $188 / 5 = $37.60

**As I was writing this one...the site next to 73/74 was reserved. #75 is across the roadway.

I'm sold.  Put me in with the group reservation.  Having everyone together seems like the way to go to me.  Thanks for taking the lead on this.  and if I remember correctly, its pay in cash at the site, correct?

Okay, ill reserve the sites on Friday. I'll have to do it on online with my CC through the NFS, no problem. I'll register the group under SCCX, and post the sites later this weekend.

All I ask is that someone volunteer and get checked into the spaces at 2pm.

I can collect the $ from everyone once I get up there Friday night and give you all a receipt.

So 1 single space and 1 double space. 5 rigs.

Title: Re: CANVAZ II CAMPERS
Post by: Lava on October 03, 2012, 07:49:57 AM
Excellent. PM me your info and I'll let "Lynn" at the park check in Kiosk know you'll check in for the group.  I'll also give you my contact info in case there are any issues. I'll make the Reservations Friday mid morning.

I'll try to get us close to, but not next to the bathrooms/showers so we don't get bothered with any extra foot traffic or smells. I was there last year, and didn't have any issues, but just in case.

We all good with that?

Not sure yet. Haven't done the meal plan, but most likely the usual. Steak and lobster, umm I mean bratwurst and hamburgers and a bunch of freeze dried stuff that's easier to pack and doesn't require much to prep.

Going to try my hand at the dry ice route again. Last time I froze my stuff. This time I think ill add a barrier from it so it maintains a cold temp for the 2 days without the need to refill ice. Plus we can have cold drinks on the trail without the slosh factor. ;D

I take the block ice approach, freeze 1 gal jugs of crystal geyser ( they have the toughest bottles) with a 6 day cooler. Everything stays cold and when the ice melts, its drinking water :-)

Good to know re: wood....although I'm guessing there will be plenty around us...

As far as food goes I am fuzzy on how much to bring....Fri night I'll get there around 7ish so I'm thinking I'll eat on the way up....

Sat I'm on one trail or another for 90% of the day so I'm thinking I'll bring some breakfast food but lunch and dinner will be stuff I can munch on while on the trail.

Then Sunday we're breaking down camp before we hit the trail....

That sound right?

It is allowed, but only in designated areas and you have get a permit, $25 per cord.

As far as food goes, I'll be packing light.  Cold cuts for lunch, maybe some brats for dinner, warm Julian apple pie for desert. :-)

Not sure if it's legal to burn tree fall in Big Bear.

When I was in Yosemite a ranger told me that it's bad for the trees if you burn wood that isn't from there....the ranger encouraged me to go scrounge for wood rather than burn the stuff I brought...

Of course, this was the night after I hiked Half Dome....at which point I looked at the guy like he had 3 eyes...

Hi Mark!!

Welcome to SCCX!!!

What time is 'early'?  We'll be at the meeting spot around 8 and the trailhead at 9, so if you can get there before then, we'll help you find a spot near us, etc.  As far as I know, come 9, most if not all of our group will be gone on one of the trails, so please advise as to what time you anticipate arriving so we can find you a spot accordingly.

Be ready to have a blast!!!

Its getting closer!!  ;D

I just wanted to put out some info as to where the Campers Stand:

These are the people/groups that are included in the reservations at Serrano:

Christiaan                             -xxSVxx-        1rig       1person         1tent
Jason                                  -Deadpilot     1rig       1person         1 te
Justin & Maria                        -Lava-          1rig       3peeps          1tent (Bringing Wood, Gentleman's Jack, 45,000BTU Propane Heater to sleep beside)
Doug & Michelle                     -s14slide-      1rig        5peeps          1 circus tent (Bringining Wood, Booze and Lantern)
Jordan +1                          -knightrider-     1rig       2peeps          sleeping in X (Bringing Wood)
Alex +1                                 -zmey-         1rig       1-2peeps       1tent

Any new members or late joins wanting to camp with the group will have to reserve additional spots at Serrano as we were limited in the number of vehicles and People per campsite and are already paid in full thanks to Lava's Wife.

IF you are on the list above, Please PM me your First Name and Vehicle Color. I will be coordinating this info with Jason (Deadpilot) who was kind enough to drive up to BB early on FRI to check us in at 2pm and pay the extra $30 vehicle fees for the spaces not included in the reservations. Jason will get us checked in and we will all go to him for the vehicle placards we need to hang in the windows of our rigs while in the Campground.

Also, PM me if you plan to bring anything for the good of the group like wood, whiskey, a charcoal BBQ grill, etc. I'll add it to the list above to so we can get an Idea of what we should bring to make our stay more enjoyable.

She says your welcome  :) But won't allow any more non-attendees :o J/K

We are looking forward to the trip. I used to tell her about winter camping trips in Wisconsin...With the forecast in BB this weekend, I told her it would be like springtime camping in Wisconsin.  ;D ;D

I feel you on this one.  I'm in the middle of an exercise too.  Fortunately, I managed to convince these guys that I needed leave.  So I got it.  I worked 3 weeks straight to make sure we had coverage for the last one, so I made sure that they knew that they owed me.  I had to take leave, but I have plenty to spare and I think this trip will be worth it.

It Looks like I'll be off work between 2-3pm on Friday.  ;D That puts me in BB 4-5pm. I think I can handle getting us checked in unless anyone from the group will be there prior to me. If so, let me know.

Friday morning sometime I will PM my number to the group in case you encounter any issues or have ??'s.

Until then....KCCO  :P
