Title: Thanks for the add! 2002 xterra 4x4
Post by: Mattyboy77 on January 16, 2019, 02:45:45 PM
Thanks for the welcome! Day 1 of owning this truck I received an xterra club card in my windshield. Looking to start doing some stuff to my rig, I am on a budget and looking for functionality lol. I bought some 32”  tires off let go that so far are working after chopping my bumper and smashing my well/quarter back and rolling it in. Took it out to hungry valley and beat on it and was very surprised. I’m in the market for Info, cohorts, a new front bumper/winch/bar combo and some advice on what has worked best for you guys to get that tire out from underneath. My rig is used mostly for hunting and access to deeper areas/hiking and camping as well but always down to beat the living shit out if it on the trail too. Any advice welcome. I am a Long Beach resident.

Welcome from San Diego.

There are swing-away tire carrier bumpers that replace the rear bumper, but I don't recall who makes them for the 2002.  You might try Shrockworks, I think they have stuff for both first and second generation Xterras.

Right on, thank you. I’ve seen a few different types. Was considering building one inclusive with my trailer hitch so the hitch functions and the tire mounts to an offset post. I’m good with that stuff but epic failure at convincing my buddy to let me use his machine shop. So in this Xterra world, 2002 is first gen? Gonna take a while to make the lingo/info switch over from bronco land.

Welcome from Murrieta!

To answer the question about generations - yes, 2000 through 2004 is first generation. Second generation was 2005 through 2015, when the Xterra was last produced. You'll sometimes hear people refer to 2009 - 2015 years as Generation 2.5, because there was a minor cosmetic change to the front end (different grill and plastic bumper cover), but everything else was the same.

Technically there is a 1.5 gen too.  2002-2004 was a minor refresh of the front end, they went from square headlights to round and changed the hood to make room for the supercharger that was available on some models.

Also, Welcome! :D

I'd recommend looking at shrock for a front bumper/rear bumper, stay away from Calmini, horrible customer service and you'll be lucky if you actually get a bumper.
