I'm pretty sure this is were Tom broke all his welds.  He hasn't been the same since.

WOW  :o

I've only heard of this event and here it is documented for all to see. When I joined in September of 2006 people were still talking about this cattle guard to end all cattle guards. To a newbie like me I could only imagine the massive truck devouring sizing that the must have been ... and the picture matches my wildest fears. OMG why do they allow such cattle guards to exist? There has to be a law ... do it for the children if nothing else. I'm writing my California state congressmen tonight ... who's with me? For the love of all that is 4WD do it.

I think this is another one for Mitch. IIRC Mitch was leading this xpedition. He was ahead of us and said that there was a big rock in the road and that we couldn't make it around it. After we pitched camp we went up to look at the rock.

The road into Death Valley when we said goodbye to Logan, as shot by Desertratessa.  It was a small run, and we camped in Butte Valley at Geologist's cabin, which had been one of Logan's fave spots to stop.  There, everyone swapped stories, talked about how he would go wheeling in his Volvo, and left a few framed pics in the cabin.

Never went mudding into DV before.  Everything about it made it a special trip.

I can't take credit for these two photos, they were taken by Jason (WolfmanX), but they are two of my favorites from the old site.

(Not Really) Joshua Tree, Nov 2006. A lot happened on that trip, starting with Brian getting stuck in the sand just 20 feet from the pavement, then not quite finding the trail, then Mitch shredding 2 tires, all followed by one of the most enjoyable evenings around a campfire ever, complete with stargazing through someone's telescope.

Look closely and you'll see that every truck in this photo is in reverse.

Rachel taking the more ambitious line. Back when she had a whole truck.

I had this posted in another forum, but felt it really did belong here.

Don't let John fool you, he's actually a pretty good guy to have along on a trip, always good company. He will, however, try to do some really strange things at times. For example, we were out at Bombay Beach (Salton Sea) one time, and John spotted this old truck. I took one look at it and stepped back, all I could think of was tetanus.

John, however, had other ideas. First, he made sure no one was watching.

Then . . . he tried to drive it away.

That Bradshaw Trail run was great. Not only was the sunset from the top of the mountain great, but the ride back down to the campsite was even more exciting. Someone referred to that as the Goat Path of Doom. That was the run where I realized just how much the X needs additional lighting up front (not that I've gotten around to doing anything about that yet). I think at least 2 of us (myself included) lost our 7-pin trailer hitch connector thingies on that path as well.

Haven't post in this thread in a while...but a few things have happened that might be "Great Moment" worthy:

Rattlesnake Canyon 2012, when 37 trucks showed up at the trail head...a very busy day juggling CB/Ham/FRS comms in my lap with xxSVxx co-juggling
