This is from Just Runs 4WD Club in San Diego:

We encourage members to get their Ham Radio license and install a 2 meter radio in their 4x4s for safety and convenience. Though a CB radio is part of our Required Equipment list, Ham radios are much better in case of emergency. We recommend you have both.

If you are interested in getting your license, there will be an all day class with the license test to be given immediately after the class. Most people find the classes the easiest way to get a license. The participants in the classes classes have about a 90% - 95% pass rate the first try.

There is a class for the Technician (entry level) license in Bonita scheduled for 9/22/12.

If you'd like to take the class and test, contact J. Goldberg (instructor)

If you have non-technical questions about Ham Radio, email me at mullinsr@cox.net or call me at 619/579-7120

I took this class and tested at the end of the class. I reccommend this class to anyone interested in HAM radio, it is informative and will help greatly. You test with all the information fresh in your mind and qualified and knowledgeable instructors to answer questions.....prior to the test of course.

I hit Point Loma from Fallbrook (50+miles) yesterday,on the 2 meter band, radio to radio (no repeater).  Try that with a CB!?!

I sent in an email the other day asking to get in on the 9-22 class.  Haven't heard back yet.  Hoping there is still room.

I am sure there will be enough spots...unless everyone in SCCX is planning on attending.  ;)
