looking at the video around the 1:00 mark, you can see they should be able to be mounted to the underside of the rack and still have enough height for the tentside pieces to slide in, but that would probably require removal of the roof rack in order the get the bolts in and to tighten them down so I don't blame you for the topside mounting at first.

That was my first thought when I saw them mounted to your rack (roof rack), but I didn't want to sound like a dummy so I shut up for once.

Yeah, FIG and I are big people, not little delicate flowers.  And we've been known to "stress" the tent's framing due to...."moving around".

So we thought we'd try mounting from the top first to see how it goes (rather than stressing the screw mounts by placing the weight bearing from underneath).

But I understand Joe's concern about fitting too snug - every inch counts........

That's a bummer. They also look like they add at least 2" of height to the RTT setup, which is also a bummer. I still REALLY want to swap out to the flat-top style rack for clearance purposes. Running a frontrunner with the "toro mod" like you guys have would allow me to titan swap and still fit in the garage. I was hopeful these quick releases would be part of that ultimate plan/solution, but it looks like they'll add too much height :(

Joe- here are some pics I took today.  I'm no photographer, so they are kinda wonky.

I know it's hard to tell, but I think the mount is only about 1 in above the rack lip.  Enough to make sure you don't pinch your hand when putting tent on. Hope this helps.

So it looks like if you installed those mounts under the cross beams the mounts would not stick up above the side rails very much at all, maybe 1/4-1/2" at most

Thanks Barb! And yeah, I agree with you Jordan. Like barb said, it would probably be too low to even get your hand in there and engage the locking mechanisms. I suppose this is the best way to do it.

Joe,  I think it would depend on how much clearance you needed - that's why I measured from the roof.  You'd need at least 4.5 inch clearance with a Toro Mod rack and mounted on top.

But Jordan is right - mounted below would give you even more clearance.

Pretty sure either position would work and still allow you to lock the mechanism.

Better talk to Danny..... ;) ;)

OK Barb, time to put the tent back on one more time and measure from the top of the siderail to the bottom of the tent, it looks like lowering it 1"(approx thickness of the crossbars from the looks of them) would sill give plenty of room to work the latches.
