Maybe we should start a separate field day planning thread I was originally planning on having a kickback field day of my own this year but if you guys are up for doing a field day I just might have to join you

Depending upon when and where I would be interested. I've never had the opportunity to attend a field day.

From the ARRL web site:
When - Field Day is always the fourth full weekend of June, beginning at 1800 UTC Saturday and running through 2059 UTC Sunday. Field Day 2016 is June 25-26.

Objective - To work as many stations as possible on any and all amateur bands (excluding the 60, 30, 17, and 12-meter bands) and to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions.

The real question is - What level of effort are we going to put into it?  Is it - Let's meet on a hilltop on Saturday the 25th for a couple of hours to check out radios and gear.  Or is it - Let's set up a site that we operate for two days to see if we can talk to operators on the back side of Timbuktu using a 0.3 milliwatt transmitter built in an Altoids can?

I'm thinking we are a lot closer to the first scenario.

Hey campers, sounds like a great time to test those solar panels and refer systems as well.  Ham and beer go well together.

Steevo, are you thinking top of Cleghorn or where???

I might have some property in the mountains with some nice amenities that could accommodate a small group...

I was actually originally thinking about finding a Yellow post site in bog bear, but with the interest thats showing here we'll need to figure something else out.
Maybe just get a few sites near each other in holcomb valley or at big pine flat in big bear or something?

Who else has HF radio equipment that they can bring out?
I only have one setup.

A station should include:
-an HF Radio
-an antenna w/ coax
-Power Source or Battery w/ a way to recharge (solar, bike on alternator, generator etc.)
-Laptop for logging contacts (http://www.n3fjp.com/fieldday.html)

Someone would also need to bring a wifi router so all the laptops can communicate with eachother so everyones log shows up live.

Who's in?

Okay, this is sounding interesting.  I don't have an HF rig (that works), but I do have a 40' antenna tower that fits in a duffle bag.  It has three UHF/VHF antennas on it, but we can also use it to support an inverted "V" long-wire antenna if you have one.  I can grab a bunch of stuff out of our mobile command post to play with as well.  There are also some standard forms in the Incident Command System (ICS) that are meant for keeping track of communications.

I've got battery (100ah in my truck),  solar to charge said battery and a laptop but no HF rig.

I picked up my Goal Zero Yeti 400 last week.  If we are really needing power, I can bring my 5.5Kw gas generator!

Awesome it sounds like we have 2 full stations including my gear.

We still need to figure out a location.
