We had a nice turn out tonight, but the food trucks never showed up.  Still, it was a lot of fun, and cool enough that there were no mosquitos, so we did not need our full bug suits.

We had 7 Xterras there and 8 owners.  Dave came on his motorcycle on his way home from work.  We even had one new comer with a lot of questions!

I did find out from my friend that works in a smog shop that it is legal to use aftermarket cats as long as they are California versions.  I guess they often make 49 state version and the separate CA version.  IF a smog guy inspects the cats he is looking for the model version number to make sure it is a CA cat.  They are all supposed to check that but don't always.

His take on it all is that the CA system is designed to make it cost prohibitive to keep old cars on the road via extra regulations that sharply raise costs.  He sees MANY cars every day that would have to spend more than the car is worth to meet the requirements and many pay up only to have something else go bad like the time belt break or tranny issues.
