Ok, dates are set Jan 15,16,17th. I sent off for the permit tonight and hope to see all of you guys out there on this run! It's a long way off but that also gives everyone plenty of time to plan for it and put it on their calendars.

 Done!

As a side note, I got a email from the park service and the application is being processed for the trip.

Done and welcome to the forums. Since on the topic, the only thing I would ask is that you will be prepared to travel roughly 180 off road miles. It's easy to do in 2wd but that's during good weather. Have the proper camping gear and clothing as it gets downright cold out there at night. As time goes on I'll post up more information on the specifics but the run itself is a hoot with a lot of really great folks that make the trip just that much better.

So are we going to be good with FRS, or am I going to have to break down and buy a CB? ;)

^^^^ Good question!  We have a CB, but no FRS.  Do we need both?

A CB will run you $30, and is infinitely more reliable than FRS.

Now, don't get me started on HAM radios....LOL...

CBs are just about manditory for all the runs.  You really should get one.  Hams are a real good upgrade, but only if you want to 'hang out' with 'the cool kids' 8)  FRS is just so yesterday!  As always, we are a non-club, so it's totally up to the trail master de jure.

I would appreciate it if you could run with a CB at least to be able to communicate. As Duffman put it, HAM's would be much more preferable as they are so much more reliable but not a requirement.
