best cheap way to mount large cb
« on: April 17, 2014, 03:46:55 PM »
I have an old cobra 29 ltd classic and I was wondering if anyone had ideas on how and where to mount the beast.

Don't laugh, but since I wire up the Ham, just zip tie my CB on the headrest post. It actually works really well since it's right next to my head I can hear it. When I am done using it, I just cut it and put it away.

that's funny. I may do that this weekend. I've been so lazy and haven't finished wiring my light bar or mounting my cb or mounting my bully dog.

Zip tie around the whole cb to the posts? I'll have to try that

Bungee cord it in the cargo area and run a long mic cord. ;)

I dont use that area much.  I made two little brackets out some metal.  Then popped the plastic part out and drilled holes through it and attached it there.

I'm going to mount mine up on the head liner just in front of rear view mirror

I though about the head liner and dash, I'm afraid my cb is just to large to mount conveniently I might try the head rest or the floor on the passenger side

I'd recommend you get a new cb nick, they are cheap and don't have mystery switches :-)

Lmao I probably will and as it turns out that  switch is for the reverb and apparently one of the 3 settings is mute. I think it just has a learning curve to it, being that my stepdad modded it years ago and it's about 4 months younger than I am.

Oh so that was a 3 position switch, ever figure out what that thing was on top? It might be a tumor, you should get that checked out haha

I have the same cb radio mounted on top of my dash.  I used a universal Lrg cb radio mounting bracket hard-mounted to the little tray above the radio.  Getting the wires and cables up to it was a pain.  Ar for the 29 LTD, you need all those knobs and switches.  There is a learning curve to it.  It's
such a popular radio that Cobra still makes it today and even offers a PDF file of the owners manual that you can printout.  Send me a PM with your cell phone # and I can text you a picture of what my radio looks like mounted.

I had my small cb radio in the center console.  See the "How-To" section on Simple cb radio install.  I started in the club with a 2000 xuerra, built it up till it was perfect, and became an expert on that model rig.  This past Thanksgiving, some idiot crashed into me while at a stop, so I was forced to buy another.  I figured "if I'm going to buy another Xterra, might as well be top of the line".  So now, I have to start all over.
