Mojave Rd 04/19th & 20th, 2014
« on: March 19, 2014, 08:54:27 PM »
I will attempt to recreate as much as I can here for the upcoming Xcusion. I'm not looking forward to it but I'll work on it. I think John is doing a good job of putting it back together,  but he asked me to do this.

Head to Laughlin on Friday the 18th. Stay at hotel/camp. Hit the road early Sat the 19th. Camp Sat night along the road. Finish road on Sunday the 20th. No real wheeling, just a desert trip and camping through a historical, 120 mile, desert road.
We would be starting in Laughlin, at the AVI Casino, on the morning of the 19th and head west towards I-15. Camp at Hole in the wall, Camp Mojave or Beal Mt on Saturday night. We can take a vote but I think I'd like to end it at Afton Canyon and avoid the "Mojave River".
This is stock (running boards and mud flaps style) and family friendly.

If I don't have your cell, please PM it to me

Due to permits for large groups, this run is capped at 20 vehicles and 40 people.

If we fill up, I will start a standby list. Last year we had no cancelations and took 15 trucks through the trail. The Year before that we had about 6+ last min cancelations. We will not run a second smaller group to circumvent the permit. I'm on the hook and held responsible with the Mojave National Preserve and don't want to poke a bear.

Standby List

The AVI Casino is located at

10000 Aha Macau Pkwy,

We will meet in the parking to get together and meet and great. There is a gas station and a convenience store in the parking lot of the AVI. Ice, gas, snacks and beer will be available.
I would like to roll out at 0830 at the latest.  Please be gassed up and ready to roll around 0800. It will take time to get a group this big going. Then we have to account for the buried phone.

Things you need to have or be aware of and required.

-Rig in good working condition. Check all your fluids and spot check your belts and hoses
-Working 4wd
-At least 1 spare tire with in 2" in size to the tires on your rig. No Doughnuts.
-A Jack that can alow you to change a tire in uneven ground
-A CB Radio. (plenty of time to get one)

-Dogs are more than welcome but please keep them on a leash while out and about.

-Enough fuel to travel 200 miles in 4wd
-Minimum 1 Gallon of water per person per day

-You will have to take a dump at some point so plan ahead and dont wait till the last min.

-What ever you need to camp comfortably
-Bring enough batteries (Jordan) and memory (Jordan) for cameras (Jordan)
-Binoculars
-Wide brimmed hat
-Flashlights, lantern
-Good walking shoes
-A camping chair and somewhere to prop your feet will be nice
-GPS. Hand held or carmount

We will be pot-lucking it on Saturday night....details later.

A good reference guide is a good idea. I like and use,

this version is limited on the Mojave Rd but has enough the be helpful

Comm's
Please remember to pick up a CB. I will not be doing FRS this year. We will communicating 100% by CB. Ham radio will only be used to talk isht about those with out Ham radio's . With a group this size, Ham will be used to have solid Comm's btwn lead and tail....and god forbid, in case of emergency. There are many reasonable options available.

This is my set up...and it's awsome.

Opinions on CB's are like belly buttons. Everyone's got one.

We will be working CB channel 17 and 2m simplex 146.535

points of interest

This trip destroys in cabin filters. The fine sand of the Mojave gets into everything.  Please consider changing your filter before and after the trip.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001D566IG/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_gMMktb1SK8DPA
These have less pleats than the OE filter so it won't last as long...but at these prices, that's okay.

We will be hauling out ALL trash. If you have a tire carrier you might want to consider a Trasharoo.
http://trasharoo.3dcartstores.com/
These guys keep the trash out of your rig. Keeps the smell out and frees up precious cargo space.

If your running an oiled cone filter, consider running a dry pre-filter. The fine sand will get stuck to the filter and and start sucking down the MPG's even further.
 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001034E6W/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_EZMktb18JKRHK
This particular one is for 9" base and 7" top diameters. This will only alow the finest of sand to get through. Find what works for yours and give it shot. It will pay for itself on this one trip.

We will be doing the Friday Warp9 haul through the desert.
It will run from 29palms/Joshua Tree to Laughlin with minimal pavement. We will be traveling North East, South of the 15 through some of the least traveled, most beautiful parts of the Mojave.

After a long, dirty, hot day of wheeling, few things hit the spot like and awesome meal and a cold beer! In the past, we have managed to put together a pretty impressive feast during the Saturday night break. I encourage you to participate with what ever you can.
Please bring enough food for around 6-8 people. If everyone brings enough for everyone, we will have waaaaaaaaaaay too much food.

3lbs of Carne Asada. The good stuff (because it's $6/lbs) , Ranchera Preparada (marinated skirt steak). Please don't freeze it. The marinade destroys the meat

You're a stud Toro!

So, is John bringing a whole beer truck or what?

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help out.

Harrah's Laughlin Welcomes SCCX!

Alright guys, everything is setup for the group!  Here's our custom link:

http://www.totalrewards.com/hotel-reservations?propCode=LAU&groupCode=L04SCC4

All you have to do is select April 18 for check in, number of guests(group rate is good up to 2 people, if you've got kids, pack them in a suitcase or just dont bring them to check in desk to save yourself the $10-20).  upgraded rooms are available, but be aware, the group rate is for a deluxe room which is already an upgrade from the north tower classic rooms.

For guests that prefer to phone in their reservations, they may call our Reservation Center at 877-881-5955 to secure a reservation on your group block.  Callers must use your group code to identify the group, L04SCC4.

Please note that you and your guests may make reservations in the block at group rate until 3/19/2014.  After that time, the group rate will be offered based on hotel availability only.

Thanks Toro! My name is Travis. Looking forward to seeing other SCCX folks and the Mojave Road again. BTW, Mojave Road was the first run we did with SCCX back in 2001. We've been away for a bit.
