Cleghorn Road April 10
« on: March 28, 2016, 08:45:57 AM »
My son and I will be going on a quick trip to Cleghorn and Pilot Rock.  Our plan is to hit the road by 9:00 AM. If anybody wants to join us just chime in.

This is the day after ModDay, a great time to try out your stuff.   And a good TMR (Toro's Mohave Run) pre-run.

I'm 50% in, I'll have to check with the smarter 50% first though.

Meet up at 9 am at Cleghorn, or you are leaving Orange at 9am?

I'm interested, just need to confirm with the wifey. It would be my first time out there.

I'm supposed to headed out of town for work, but I'm not sure if it's that Sunday or Monday yet.  If I'm leaving Monday, I'll be in for this run.

I "might" be able to do this..  I've got my coms all situated already. I really just need to get my radiator replaced so I don't have the trans bypassed anymore.

I'll be leaving Orange at 8:00, we usually meet on the West side of the freeway around 9:00.  If you want to meet near the 91 and 55 to follow us up let me know.

yeah as far as comms are concerned what will be the requirements for this run? I have a crappy little two way walkie but I'm pretty sure that isn't going to cut it.

What/where is a good place to pick up a CB? I don't have one. I'm picking up a strap and d'ring/receiver hitch and shovel this week.

www.amazon.com. If you prefer brick and mortar, you can go to Fry's or Radio Shack, if you can find one that's still open.

A couple of popular models around here are the Uniden Pro520XL (about $50 and fits right in the center console) or the Cobra 75 WXST (about $90 and has the controls and speaker built into the handheld microphone, with one very small hide-away module for the antenna and power connections). There are a million options when it comes to antennas and mounts, and just as many opinions about which is the best to run with. Most folks in the group run a 36" or 48" fiberglass whip antenna, but some are running a metal whip which handles tree branches better. :) As far as mounts, again, a million options that range in price from $15 up to about $80 and have varying degrees of difficulty to install and use. Everything from a magnet mount with a piece of coax running in the back door, all the way up to 3-axis adjustable hatch or hood mounts. You'll find plenty of options if you browse around in the SCCX Comms section of the forum. If you don't find the info you need over there, just post up a new thread and you'll get tons of answers. :)

Cleghorn is 2wd stock friendly. There is a fireroad that intersects with the more technical stuff throughout the trail. It would be a good first run and chance to meet people.
