99% sure I will be solo but may be able to talk the girls into coming (+2) if they do.

I will be traveling from SLC UT, but this run is on my list, but just talked to the managers at work and they said sure. So vacation approved. Add me in, if you don't mind an outsider coming. FYI screen name is the same on TNX so feel free to vet me there if you like. Let me know if you have an issue with an outsider.

What xxSVxx said...and...

You've got a few months to prepare...plenty of time for a little SCCX forum surfing.

Read these:

SCCX TMR 2015

SCCX TMR 2014

SCCX TMR 2013

SCCX TMR 2012

Then, scroll over here and give this serious consideration...spiral bound is what the cool kids do:

The Mojave Road Guide

Finally, mouse your way here so you can get the inside "trail scoop":

Shameless Ham Radio Plug

I can tell you from past experiences, if in 5 months you actually find yourself meeting everyone at the Avi Casino parking lot on Friday morning...you will be in for the desert cross country experience of a lifetime.

Mojave Road April 22th - April 24th

There is a reason this fills up in less than a week and has a wait list for months...

EDIT:  spoolup has a 50 qt. ARB fridge...cold adult beverages/carne asada on the trail achievement unlocked.  ;D

Go ahead and put me down for this, with a +1.  I figure I might as well pony up and get on a trip with you guys.  I should be able to have camping supplies situated by then.  Right now, there's no work trips on the radar, but anything could pop up between now and then.  If this happens, I will immediately pull myself off the trip.  I'll be taking the test for my amateur license the first week of December and I already have a radio set-up waiting to be installed.

I need to confirm that the wife will be good spending three days in the desert, she has trouble going on short trips into the hills with me right now. haha  If she doesn't want to go, I'll pull my +1, but I'm definitely still going. ;)

Just a note, if camping supplies are the hold up between you going and not going, I know I would be happy to loan a tent or sleeping bag.  (I'm pretty sure a lot of other guys would be, too)

This.

As far as cooking gear (stove, etc), we typically do potluck style group dinners, so you can prepare a dish before hand that doesn't need to be cooked on the trail (salad, etc) or contribute food to the dinners that the group will cook up for you (those details usually get hammered out as we get closer to the trip). As for breakfast, we may or may not do a community breakfast, but you're more than welcome to use my stove in the mornings if you bring your own eggs/sausage/bacon/whatever.

I know it's early... but do we want to just call the two dinners spaghetti and carne asada now? I'm sure that's where we'll end up. :D I'll offer up plenty of Italian sausage for the spaghetti night - it was a big hit on the Death Valley trip, and it's pretty easy to cook on the trail using the bbq grill attachment for my camp chef stove.

And now that I have my own fullsize two burner stove, I can offer to do some cooking! :)

Here's our vetting process:

Can you:

-communicate with the group via HAM, CB

-operate your vehicle on off road conditions, and be willing to take direction while navigating obstacles as to ensure the group keeps moving?

-bring firewood because we like GIGANTIC fires

-bring either food to make or supplies to back up one of the many pot-luck dishes

-enjoy the F outta yourself during the weekend

-make dozens of new friends and take hundreds of pictures of and with them?

-bring a penny to put in the can?

-bring a frog for the altar?

-bring a gnome for the garden?

We really don't give 2 craps who you are or where you're from, really.  It all comes down to your ability to blend in, help where needed, take simple direction to allow the group to function properly and make sure you're having fun....and we usually take care of the rest!!

edit: try to brush up on FIREJENGA 101.....avoid CB channel 8, don't ask about the chewdonkey alone.....and bring warm stuff...it gets pretty cold out there even in April

Yeah but what about the Fez? Or are we still not to let people know about that until it gets sprung on them during the run?

I appreciate that Steve and Joe.  This is more a fact of me procrastinating and not getting the things together that I need for a trip like this.  It's something I've been looking at doing, but I keep pushing it off.  Now, I have an end goal that will drive me to get the truck/supplies ready for trips like this.  If I can't get everything together, I will definitely take you all up on your offer.

With that...Does everyone sleep off the desert floor, or do some of you actually set up a tent on the ground?  I'm not new at camping, but I am new at camping in the desert.

Kind of depends on how rugged you want to be.
I typically pop a tent mostly for privacy.

If you're SirJohnOfFullertob, then you sleep under the stars.

Roof top tents are becoming pretty popular with our group, too.

Thanks,  I'll peak around in that forum, sorry about the de-rail.  Steve, I was thinking the same, on the floor.  Now, back to your regularly scheduled thread.
