Need new EGR Valve and Cats

Hey everyone!
Just got back from Miller Nissan in Van Nuys where they quoted me $2,800 for an EGR Valve and both Cats for my '00 Xterra. I'm confident I can swap the EGR with a new one from Autozone for about $160 or so...but what about the Cats. I need these issues fixed so I can pass emissions and take the family on a road trip to AZ in a few weeks. Does anyone know an honest mechanic/muffler shop in the Van Nuys area?

Why the cats? Are they rattling, or what? Do you have the smog paper of why you didnt pass(shows HC,NOx, CO2,etc ..)

cheap gas will make them fail. EGR might be doable, while cats might need an welder or good clamps. I have an friend who had the same problem. I will ask him if I can give you his name. He isn't an member and I will get back to you.

Just make sure they are CARB certified if you buy online. Without the carb cert. they can fail the visual.

As of this writing, there are no C.A.R.B. cert. hi-flow cats available fo any CA XTERRAS. We would have to go outta state to buy them AND have them installed by welding them in place of the original ones. Just have to make sure that they re-weld the original flanges and heat shields to them so they can be removed in the future if needed.
