Hey guys,
I know this is a long shot but I'm heading up to Yosemite next weekend.  Does anyone know any spots up there to do some off-roading along the way from San Diego?  I'll be camping overnight Friday and Saturday up there at the Curry Village Tent Cabins in the Valley.  Would be fun to get my X dirty again!

johnson valley is probably a little out of your way but cleghorn is pretty much on the same latitude only right off the east side of the 15. thats a fun run.

I think that the Carrizo Plain National Monument is sort of on the way (it's near Bakersfield), depending on what route you take.  I've never been there, but I hear it's pretty spectacular this time of year.  There are some unpaved roads you can wander around on.

I think someone from here was out there not too long ago, maybe they'll respond.

Thanks for the input guys.  These are great ideas for others trips.  I was hoping for something right off of I-5 before the Rte 99 split to Bakersfield or right near the Curry Village camps in Yosemite.

Is there anything on that stretch of I-5 (Carlsbad to Bakersfield)?  I only have a few hours, so maybe its wishful thinking.  Also looking for a place to camp along the way if anyone knows a place?

Anyone know anything about Hungry Valley OHV or Ballinger Canyon?

My route to Yosemite will be http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Carlsbad,+San+Diego,+California&daddr=Curry+Village+Yosemite&hl=en&geocode=Fc3z-QEdPl8B-SlZ7js_RXPcgDEvXfb8klXLpA%3BFabRPwIdSHff-CnTE1wZOfKWgDGAPmrnZi9CVw&mra=ls&sll=47.236505,-118.040727&sspn=58.494341,169.013672&ie=UTF8&ll=35.95133,-119.031372&spn=4.35737,10.563354&z=8
