Has anyone installed a performance chip on their Gen 1? There are two different chips for 2000-2004 xterras: SLR Motorsports has a chip for Xterras (2000-2007) and claims it can increase both torque and HP by 50. http://slrmotorsports.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=645The second is Jet Chip: http://www.jetchip.com/The Jet Chip requires about a week for the company to receive, reprogram, and ship the original chip back to you. The Jet Chip site does not indicate the HP increase, but it has a larger market presence than SLR. BTW does anyone know if SLR motorsports is the same as Spencer Low Budget Racing that went out of business? Has anyone installed a throttle body spacer?

I've not seen anyone who really got anything tangible out of that. The spacer, IMHO, is snake oil.
Different SLR.
Even the guy in TX who had his throttle body ported, polished and made a touch larger only saw nominal gains at best, though he partially accredited the improvements to having a fresh part (albeit an improved one) on a 100K+ engine.

Keep in mind your engine is fuel injected right at each intake valve so a throttle body spacer isn't going to mix fuel and air any better. It looses its swirling motion as the plenum seperates into 6 individual ports.
When I had my intake off last month I checked the fit of the gaskets and porting to where the parts of the intake mounted up against each other and all were very, very close. I thought I would take the dremel and port everything but didn't because they were near perfect matches. The gaskets fit really well and didn't obstruct the porting at all. Nissan did a good job there but I think they could have smoothed the plenum out by making the entry more centered and straight on. If you look at it it is Asymetrical.
BTW Gas pills, electricturbofans, and magnets on the fuel line are all bogus as well.

I have installed the throttle body spacer and yes you can see a noticeable increase in throttle response in the mid range mainly , while at slower speed it tends to slow down when acelerarating hard till it catches up. Bare in mind I have a FIPK 2, and cat back eghaust as well. I also have 8.5 MM wires and iridium plugs. I have looked at the JET reflash but I havent decided. I lwould like the xtra power to compensate the armor.
As far as hog wash, I have a custom fitch system and I get on the average of 1.25 additional miles per gal, if I stay out of the pedal and dont try to accelerate with the BMWs

I haven't heard anything good about the chip reflashes although JET is a reputable company. I would trust them especially if you called and talked to someone in person as to what they will do to it. Considering that the VG33 motor is not for racing, I wouldn't bother with a reflash. But that's me. If you want to you can, and you might do better that us. Try it and let us know. It's a trial and error thing.
I did the Port and polish, mainly polishing all the parts but heavy porting on the heads (int/exh). Combustion chamber only need cleaning. I did noticed a slight increase in hp but a good increase in torque across the entire power-band. To compensate for the extra air going in, I replaced the fuel pump unit (OE flows 60 gal/hr.) with an ebay.com 105 gal/hr. direct-replacement unit. The only thing I need now is the headers, hi-flow cats, upsized exhaust pipe, and a cat-back exhaust.

Who did the port and polish.?This is an almost forgotten art on the street.
The JET techies, I have spoken with and they say about the same thing as the add. It will show an increase in fuel managment and increase of torque and horsepower acrross the whole powerband spectrum not just full throttle. But at over 300.00 I can wait.
I would do the reflash over the piggyback chip mentioned earlier.
Also did you notice any issues on the street with the higher capacity fuel pump?

Jet has a new product or maybe a redo on the exsiting one. This is the plug in programmer versus the reflashing the ECU. I called and talked to the techs at Jet. He explained to me the plug in version reflashes either way so you can save 60.00 dollar by doing the plug in version. Wiht the Plug in version you can allot of the same readouts like the SCAN GAUGE 2, IE TPS, water temp , etcc..
Also after re-reading bobby input. I am quite sure I had gains . Mainly freeway and city though. Standing still it still is a rock with wheels. The passing ability is increased and this is the most noticaable, although someone mentioned the swirling wold stop. Well it would decrease but the mixing is where I feel trhe key is at.

I think Unichip is in Huntington Beach and they want $400, you send in your computer with a list of engine mods and they take those into account when reprogramming the unit. 2 day turnaround too.

I thought with UNICHIP I would have to leave the truck there for the reprogram.
