I like all the additional parameters it monitors and displays and yes, if you drive conservatively you can even get better mileage with more horsepower.

I've seen them retail for about $399.

got a ? with these programmers do you have to have'em in your car all the time or once you program ur car that's it u could remove it. and can one programmer be used to program other xterras?

The Bully Dog stays in the vehicle, which is how it's display functions work.  Other programmers (i.e.: those without a display face) can be used to flash the computer the removed until you want to change a parameter or reinstall the OEM profile.

Personally, although they cost a bit more, I would like being able to see if the money I spent was actually doing anything.

Thank you i was just thinking out loud, to see if its worth finding some one  who has one to share (for a fee) but i guess that thought is out.

Understand.  The problem I see with borrowing a programmer would be that

  • You would need to plug the same programmer back into the OBD-II connector to reinstall the factory program profile before getting your Xterra serviced at the dealer.
  • I think most programmers will only swap and hold one factory program profile in memory; a problem if you're using someone else's programmer.

However, I appreciate where you're coming from with this.  I too would like to try out the Bully Dog to see how I liked it before plopping down $350.

thank you makes sense, was just a thought. I still have not met anyone who has it for their xterra and i have been looking for 8 years.
