Well she is getting a diamond pendant and a vacuum (No kidding, she really wants it) she wanted and I am going for a volant intake system and a catback exhaust. The decision on which intake was the easy part after reading Ozs' post but I am stuck on which cat back. I really think the whole system type would be best ( the type with a new Ypipe ) but I also see the types that start after the stock Ypipe. My theory is that the gases get really hot as they go through the cats and expand and by having the larger pipes start there would be better than after the Ypipe. Those of you that have this mod please chime in. I want to order this soon enough that it will be under the tree on Christmas. And if your laughing about the vacuum then watch this short video............ http://bewareofthedoghouse.com/video.aspx

I went with a 3 chamber flowmaster (with a turn down) and noticed a small hp increase. I think it was because I got rid of the stock muffler and extra tubing. My exhaust now dumps just before the axel so it has a great rumble sound.

I would recommend changing both the exhaust canister (muffler) and getting custom aluminized piping. A local muffler shop should be able to do the whole thing including the Y-pipe for about $100 as long as you give them your choice of exhaust canister (muffler) for them to weld on.
But I think you would get much more power gains from changing out the factory exhaust manifolds to aftermarket headers over a cat-back exhaust or upgraded cats. On look at the OE pieces and you'll know why.

Was looking on Ebay and saw a guy who was selling stainless catbacks w/ypipe for $300. I called him at his shop in Sun Valley and he said they are all Nismo and he bought a warehouse full of them that had water damaged boxes and if I drive up there he will sell me one for $240 as a walk in price. He Gaurantees they are NISMO and will prove it if I like (says the box and instructions say Nismo as well as the pipe tip is engraved NISMO). He is located off San Fernando rd and Lankershim just off the 5 fwy. He sounds pretty legitemate. Says he buys a lot of water damaged packages and sells them for less on ebay. He has a 100% positive feedback. http://shop.ebay.com/items/_W0QQ_nkwZcatbackQ20xterraQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZR40QQ_mdoZ

That's the guy I bought mine from and I'm very happy with it. I got almost as good a deal and he cut the shipping in half. The only thing I didn't like was the chrome plated coffee can on the end but I've remedied that already.

I have that same exhaust(Nismo). Sounds great but wont help the mileage b/c youll want to hear it. Also if you get it from that guy ask him if he'll throw in some Nismo floor mats. I know hes done it on multiple occasions. Oh and yes i had to use a Sawzall to get the stock y-pipe off. It was fun.

Not really expecting anything noticeable in the way of HP or MPG out of this pipe. But I do need a new muffler as the stock one is a bit rotted from the mud that was on top of it and at $240 for the whole enchilada from the ypipe back it is a good deal considering nissan wants $200 for just the muffler not including the gasket. Combined with the new CAI I might get a little improvement in HP and MPG from better breathing but probably nothing to brag about. Since I always check MPG at each fill up I will let you all know if there was any improvement no matter how slight. I will keep my driving habits the same as not to skew the results. One thing I did when I had the intake off last month is I took the fuel rail over to a shop at Chino airport and had a friend clean the injectors. We ran the injectors before the cleaning and measured the individual volumes and check the spray patterns of each injector. They were fairly close in volume except for the rear left and right which seemed a little less and not spraying as fine of a mist. Kind of splattering droplets. He said this was probably due to heat buildup after turnig the engine off and less space around the backside of the motor. Actually #6 cylinder was the worst. After the cleaning they were all even and I had about a 8 tenths of a mile per gallon improvement. So it did help a little and all he charged me was a 6 pack of Stella plus the cost of the cleaning solution ($10) and diner at Flo's airport cafe. Such a deal!!

Well, I went up to Burbank and picked up the catback and installed it when I got home. The old exhaust came off easy and the new Nismo went on without any cuss words. Piece-o-cake. Like the sound it has. Not obnoxious at all. I want to say I notice a little pep in the mid range but it might be from the reflex link between my right foot and my ears, man it sounds cool...! Then I went and filled the tank so I can get a good assessment if the MPG changes. Before the catback I was getting 13.3 in the city as I filled up and did the math before I went to pick it up. Oh and BTW he threw in a set of front Nismo floormats. Nice people, I would recommend them to anyone that wants a Nismo catback.

I would steer away from aluminized as it corrodes. Here is cali we dont have so much road salt but if you want something that lasts do the SS. I got the Borla , I know gotta be different and I noticed gains with the FIPK
