Well, I have never been on an outing with the club so I don't figure I rate a vote but if you ever go to Johnson Valley, I live about 20 mins from the place. I can never find the time to go see what's out there but I'm sure if I had a good excuse I could find the time.

For Slantyshanty: I've never been out with the club either! That's why I want to go anywhere. I see you are in YV. I'm comming there this Saturday for star / astronomy stuff on Saturday night. I see that you have a nice X, with stuff: maybe we can go to this Johnson Valley this saturday. You been off road before, right? I'm new, really new.
What do you think? Wanna talk about this saturday?

it's the Annual Starry Nights Festival October 9th, at the Yucca Valley Community Center Complex
I have to be there only after around 7:45pm. so I have all saturday available
If this Saturday you want to go to the dry lake bed in Joshua Tree or to any other simple/nice/more difficult trails back there to check out your bolts and not be alone, I'll join you. Until last year, we went to Joshua tree park for this astronomy stuff, twice a year, but never left the roads! Yeah, dry bed lake would be great. or anything else nearby as you said. Is it possible at all that in case of camber bolt failure you might need assistance?

noonish sounds good.
see you saturday!
and since this will be our virgin inauguration of our X, we will follow you as much as the conditions will safely allow... if the going will get too tough, you need not worry about us, we'll just watch you and so on

is this the meeting place?

The ones organizing the Saturday event are your local Andromeda Society. I agree with the black sky observation; the farthest from civilization, the better the sky. In case of this Saturday, my wife with her astronomy class is attending these guys at the yucca valley center.

We went out this past weekend in Joshua Tree with slantyshanty: it was short but fun! i plan to share pictures, but I never done picture posting so i have to figure out how to do it.
We did not follow maps, so i can't tell exactly the route we took. Note for the future: get the coordinates of some points along the route using the gps to help trace the route on google maps later.
the 4L engine and the 4wd are good: these trucks just go and go! It got even better when kind of halfway through the trip i figured out how to engage the 4LO and that was much nicer than 4HI. I wanted to use the lockers twice, but i'm pretty sure it did not lock, so we made it through the spots where 1 wheel was spinning without lockers! I think i know now how to do it!
cheers to u all!

I am not absolutely sure, but this is probably the place where we went this past Saturday:
