Granted, not the prettiest snorkel in the world - but its functional. Its a prototype; future versions will be mandrel bent so no crushing. This one will be powdercoated. Yes that's an actual Safari 'scoop' on top.

If there's interest I will produce these.

Feedback always appreciated.

Very inovative Oz.  It looks like you beat Frank.  You win the X prize.  BTW, how long have you been working on this?

Its been in my mind for months. I kept looking at the fender and the location of the airbox and just kept trying to visualize the simplest yet most functional way of doing this without the luxury of engineers and an expensive custom injection mold shop. The breakthrough came after copious amounts of searching was finding the 'cobra head' 90° which solved a lot of problems. Mainly, how to get the tube into the fender without having a radius. A radius on a tube would make the snorkel stick out like 4-5" from the fender. Also the 'cobra head' is a perfect 90° without constricting airflow.

There are other problems I am trying to resolve. I wanted this to be aluminum but you can't bend 3" OD aluminum tubing. I am contemplating what metal to use on 'Prototype B' which will be mandrel bent so no more crushing on the bends. The next one wont be so tall - in fact I am going to cut this one down before it goes to the powdercoater.

The main problem is trying to do this and make it cost effective to where its affordable and still profitable. That would rectify itself with volume but I don't see a big market for these so I'm going to have to come somewhere in the middle.

I may just drive over to Volant one day and see what it would entail to have them design and produce a unit private label for me.

BTW - the current prototype works great - you can hear it sucking the air in when you gas it. It's affixed super strong and you can't even see it from the driver's seat.

Here's some Photoshop mock ups of some suggestions from other boards. Its 3" shorter and some different colors plus my brand. I'm thinking I like the black:

Splendid work Oz! If not for the bends, this will even look more kick @$$!!!

I wonder how difficult it is to build a plastic mold?

How about contacting Safari Snorkel directly?

BTW... can't go wrong with BLACK!

As a matter of fact I dropped it of today at the powdercoater and did exactly that! A really cool textured low-gloss black
