Yesterday I installed the new ARB fridge that Denise got me for my birthday. I mounted the slideout and some D rings using these:http://www.mcmaster.com/#tee-nuts/=90lv6h to a piece of 3/4" plywood. I attached the plywood to the rails with these:http://www.mcmaster.com/#strut-channel-nuts/=90lw9s.
No more soggy sandwiches. Grin

I did the math one day - if you camp four times a year for 30 years, it'll pay for itself with what you would of spent on ice. AT least that's how I justified it to myslef when I bought my Engel.  Congrats!

And not to mention you don't lose food because it gets soggy from the ice.  I love my fridge although it's not a fancy ARB Smiley

Nice addition.  You'll find it also makes for a good shop fridge when you're not on the road.

X2 on Mitch's comment.  To quote Kung Fu Panda, "there is no extra charge for awesome."

ARB always means awesome.  However, I couldn't justify spending $750 on a small fridge.  $200-300 for an off brand maybe but for me, ARB is out of reach.

President Bush bought mine - when we got those stimulus checks I dropped it on my freezer.

When we make three day/two night trips I was bringing 50-100 pounds worth of ice to try to keep things cold on the third day. 50% of the cooler was ice so we were bringing two coolers. Now I carry two days worth of drinks in a box and toss them into the freezer at the end of the day and they're cold for the next day. I also call it an earthquake prep as the thing will run off of a 50W solar panel and keep a bunch of pounds worth of meat frozen.

Anybody got any pics/price of other brands of freezers that they could recommend for use in an Xterra?

For that price I will still use my coolers and buy whiskey and ammo with the money I save.

I have a couple of 5 day 60 qrt coolers and I freeze 5 of those 2 1/2 gallon jugs of water solid. I keep them in the freezer chest in the garage so they are always ready to go. I also freeze or refrigerate all my food for a day or 2 before I load the cooler. I put 2 of the frozen jugs in the cooler with the food and drinks and store the other 3 in a spare cooler that won't get opened much while traveling. Then I always put my food in those plastic airtight containers and nothing gets water logged. As the ice in the jugs s l o w l y melts I pour it into a 1 gallon water jug once a day. That way I will always have drinking, cooking and teeth brushing water. Have had them last almost a whole week in the Sierras and about 5 days in the hot dessert. I also made some cooler covers from that foil coated bubble wrap stuff you can buy at Home depot. It reflects the heat from the sun and contains the cold of the cooler at the same time. Use a hot glue gun to construct the covers and use velcro to keep them in place. The stuff works great.
