BFG A/T KO's are very good in ice and snow...not so much no the KM's I hear though! Don't know anything about the Nitto's...I am sure there is a thread somewhere....let me see... Okay, found it: http://www.thenewx.org/forum/showthread.php?t=29354&highlight=nittoThat link might provide some insight, good luck! (P.S.~ I have the BFG A/T KO's and really like them in all conditions!)

so i ended up getting the nittos at 265 75 16 for $650 mounted balanced and all. so far i like them and i do get a little rub but nothing too bad. from the front the x looks pretty mean. also i did some work on my bumper situation i think you would all be real proud...

Snows a whole lot here in California too!
I wasn't born with a SoCal spoon in my mouth ... I was born in Minnesota and grew up on Chicago's (snowy) south side where they get twice the snow as the rest of the city due to lake effect. No summer/street tire is worth anything on ice - you need winter studded tires or chains on ice. The most aggressive tread pattern can't grip anything close to studs or certainly chains. I'd recommend having studded winter tires if you can pull it off and the state allows. The problem with big tires filling the wheel wells is that chains need a bunch of room if you're not planning on beating yourself to death. Even tight fitting chains need a couple of inches.

Yeah, I grew up around Tahoe. No 'snow' or mud tire will beat chains. I remember having to walk out 11 miles in thigh-deep snow around Markleeville. We got stuck in a 72 ford F250 with a 386 shelby cobra engine, front and rear lockers.... on BFG's.
But nothing compares to the slickness of black ice on a curved/banked bridge!
