I just finished putting my motor back together but I have a question regarding the Crankshaft position sensor mounted on the drivers side, top of the transmission bell-housing.  (Sensor is used by the computer to detect engine speed and detonation by sensing the individual gaps in the flywheel/driveplate gear teeth).  It originally has a small heat shield over it but at one point, mine was replaced without the heatshield, the sensor harness that plugs into it melted, someone tried to MickeyMouse a quick-fix and it held up.  But now, I am fixing it the right way.

My question is this:  there are two wires going to the sensor, a black and a blue wire.  Which one goes towards the front of the vehicle and which one goes towards the rear?
Or put a different way:  when looking into the female plug where the male connector plugs into, which one is on the left or the right?  Thanks guys. Smiley

According to the diag that i have Pin #1 = Black with white tracer. And Pin#2 is Blue. Here is an attempt to draw the connector looking at it:

[ 2  l  1 ]

So, looking at the connector straight on, pin#2 is on the left and pin#1 is on the right.
Hope this helps

OMG thank you.  That was a fast response.  I'm having a tuning/timing issue, possibly from the timing belt off one tooth or something like that.  I'm either too retarded or too advanced on the timing.  Difficulty starting.  Flooded cylinders with gas once already trying to start.  I've got a close friend whose a Nissan mechanic at Empire Nissan in Ontario whose helping me sort this out.  No trouble codes on the OBD-II scanner so far.

Another thing to check is to make sure you stabed the distrubtor in right. Make sure the engine is at number #1 tdc and put the distributor in position for cyl#1.
