A few of us got together for a trip out to Fish Creek and Sandstone Canyon on Saturday. One of my cousins has a new Tacoma truck, some other friends have a new Jeep Wrangler, and we’re all into photography, so we thought we would take advantage of the nice weather and abundance of wildflowers with a day trip to Anza Borrego.

I always seem to have a picture of the Anticline at Split Mountain, but don’t often get something (or somebody) of a known size in front of it for scale.

Our little group lined up at Split Mountain.

We stopped for a hike up to the Wind Caves (after I overshot the parking area by about 2 miles and we all had to turn around).

I had forgotten about it being Spring Break, there were a lot of people out there, at least in the first 5 miles or so of Fish Creek (after that it thinned out some). We saw at least 2 or 3 large groups of campers like the ones in the background here.

Both the 2010 Jeep Wrangler and the 2010 Toyota Tacoma truck were really nice, I could see having either one of them.

Then of course, there was this guy.

Cruising back down Sandstone Canyon.

We stopped off at the Cactus Garden off of Harper Canyon and Kane Springs Road, south of Hwy 78, just as the sun was getting real low in the sky.

We got off the trail just as it was getting dark, and finished off the day at the little Italian restaurant that is out at the Borrego Springs Airport. None of us had been in there before, it was actually pretty good.  Another great day in the desert.

Danny, you might want to post this over in the run thread in the Xcursions forum - might get more of a response. I can't say how this would be for a 3 year old, but some of the others have kids, maybe they have some ideas.  I think Brian's kids did a lot of offroading at that age, but I guess it depends on the kids. They seemed to enjoy it (barring the occasional cactus run-in).

I love these photos! There's nothing more beautiful than the desert in the spring.
