Well I have wanted a lift for my X for many years now
I figure I could get my lift $200-$300 at a time (add-a-leaf, control arms…)
I was thinking of starting out with the Calmini add-a-leaf and twisting the T-bar
Would I need to replace the shocks?
Should I also replace the shackles at this time?
Should I just add shackles first?
I am going about this the right way? Huh

The good things about a PML (poor man's lift) are that they are both effective and cheap.

All you need are approx. $50 for a set of rear shackles (from Calmini or AC) to lift the rear and a 1/2 hour in time to lift the front by cranking the torsion bars.

Front shocks are not required; the length is the same if you are stock or lifted.  In the back, you can obtain longer shocks and remove the rear sway bar and see a nice increase in travel over stock.  (Leave the front swaybar on.)

That's it.  I drove and wheeled that set-up for over a year and it worked great.  That frees up cash for other stuff, such as good tires and/or sliders, armor or such or, better yet, fuel for going on trips and enjoying yourself.

Hope this helps.

Depends on your usage and mileage.

Lift for street use and looks, no.  If you like to go offroad and/or your shocks are old and worn, than yes, new shocks that are for the lifted model.

The new shocks also will really wake up the handling of the X if they're old, worn out stockers.

I think they have just the one size, 2-inch.  They are pretty nice too.  Much beefier than the Calmini.

I've got the full SLR stage 2 SL lift if you're interested.  I'd be happy to help you install it too.

When you say "you got" does that mean for sale
if so how much? PM me if you like

Oh i went to 4-wheel parts today to by the shackles
The guy behind the counter told me that he never heard of AC shackles
After searching the computer and the catalogs the only ones they had for a 2000 xterra were the calmini ones. Did not know where else to go so I ordered a pair.

To late I already purchased the calmini shackles
I heard a lot about calmini both good and bad
But mainly good. So I decided not to wait any longer and finally start doing some basic mods.
I figure to start pricing out armor next.

AC stands for 'Automotive Customizers' and they are a retailer like 4wheels parts is but they specialise in Nissan products. They are in Florida. 4 wheel parts wouldn't have anything from AC. AC is 4x4parts.com

I read that "cranking the torsion bar"  would help lift the front end?  Could you elaborate more on this?
