I'm thinking about buying the Sway-a-way T-bars for my X for $160.  Calmini is $240.  4x4parts.com is $299.  I like the price but I don't want to skimp on quality.  Has anyone had experience or heard of anything bad for the sway-a-way's?  I'm trying to get rid of the soft bounciness I get when on the trails and keep from bottoming out.

Just get the SAW bars.  SAW used to make the bars for everyone else anyway.

I used saw tbars on my last 2 nissan pickup trucks and never had a problem with them. Just read the directions carefully and remember to put the one marked left on the leftside and vice versa for the right as that is about the only critical step to changing them out. They are "pretwisted" for each side. Also make sure that you get the front and back correct. Just read the instructions and take your time.

They can be pretty stiff if you don't have the weight up front like a heavy bumper. I have them and don't have a bumper and the roads around here pretty much suck so on road travel is bumpy to say the least. BUT, off road they are great. You won't be disappointed.

The ones I got weren't "pre-twisted."  Just chucked them in there.

Did have to adjust them about six times (about once a month, wheeled pretty good) before they finally took a set, though.

Bobby
What I meant by pre-twisted is that the spring steel stock has a twist in it before it is machined into the final product. I don't recall if this was done at the steel foundry or if it is done by SAW themselves but it provides a progression of resistance to the bar as it is twisted on the truck when flexing the suspension. This is what I was told by a SAW rep at an off road expo several years ago. It makes sense if you consider that the bars are marked for a left and right side otherwise you should be able to just put either bar on any side without worry. But in big letters on the instructions they warn you not to get them on the wrong side. Here is a link to their PDF online instructions.

I should have been more clear on what I meant in my original post.
Either way, Bobby, you are still the main goto guy here and I really appreciate your experience and knowledge about our trucks. You have sent me down the right path to resolving an issue more than once.

Hey dude, no worries.  What I know is, by no means, the end-all, be-all of things.  I replaced my t-bars a long time ago and manufacturers can (and do) change things all the time.

When I got my bars way back when, I received two bars in a box.  That's it.  No markings, no paperwork.  At the time, I wanted to be sure that I installed them correctly, I checked around and was told they could go in either side.  I asked again, because I had been thinking of picking up a third so I could have a spare just in case, and again was told it was fine.

Once a t-bar is used, however, that's another story and they shouldn't be switched after running them or they could fail in short order.

Sway Away is a good brand. The shocks are a little known for being on the "weeping" side of shocks, or better known as "controlled seepage". They have been making t-bars for a long time, really well known in the bug world for their torsion bars.

HA!  Just bought the Sway-A-Way torsion bars for my X today.  They are powdercoated in red.  They have the part # and a L or R  designation on one side, and painted green on the other.  Anyone know which side (color) faces the front?  Is it the red/blue or the green?  Has anyone done this?
