Have some ideas for 9/26-27 at Hungry Valley OHV & Los Padres NF trails around Frazier Park, Lockwood so who's interested Cheesy

Meet: 9/26 @ 10am McDonald's
25323 CHIQUELLA LN, NEWHALL, CA 91381-2210
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=25323+CHIQUELLA+LN,+NEWHALL,+CA+91381-22&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=59.769082,134.912109&ie=UTF8&z=17&iwloc=A

2nd meet 9/26 at the Hungry Valley OHV Gorman entrance parking lot before the booth if needed.

Saturday run is inside the Hungry Valley OHV.  Variety of trails for all levels plus a fun 4x4 practice area.   Normally we hit the big hill climbs under the power lines, cottonwood trail, etc on the way to the practice area,

West Frazier Mine Road
Rocky four-wheel drive road which passes several old mining areas. Connects Lockwood Valley Road, Lockwood Creek Road and West Frazier Tie Road

West Frazier Tie
Steep four wheel drive road connecting West Frazier Mine Road with road 8N42on top of Frazier Mountain

Please post up or if you have other ideas, suggestions, etc so we can get something going for sept.

I am going to lead the Saturday run like I did last year around Hungry Valley ORV area. We might try a different trail as the one we took was more suitable to Honda CR-Vs rather than Xterras. There were a few newbies out that day and it made for a nice shake down but even dead stock the Xterra can do more. Maybe the Pronghorn Trail which is moderate "narrow, tippy, and steep in places", 12.7 miles, about 2 hours. Might have time to do the powerline trail too south to north then play on the 4WD practice area.

Sunday’s Run
Frazier Mountain Trail
Starting point:
Churchupate Campgrounds Los Padres National Forest 34 47.16 N 118 59.78 W
Finishing point: 8N12 and Lockwood Valley Road 34 45.58 N 119 2.94 W
Total Mileage: about 25 miles of unpaved road
Driving time: about four hours
Difficulty Rating: 4: “Stock Friendly” High-clearance 4WD are recommended though most stock SUVs are acceptable. Expect a rough, rocky road surface with rocks up to 6” but there will be a reasonable driving line available. There may be some stream crossings up to 12” deep, unlikely at this time of the year.
Scenic Rating 8 out of 10

The mountain is named after the miner William T. Fraizer who worked the gold mines in the 1850s. Borax deposits were discovered at the southern end of the trail in Lockwood Valley and have been mined. Fraizer mountain overlooks Tejon Pass and Peace Valley to the east. One of the early routes in and out of the city of Los Angeles corssed the San Emigdio Mountains though these valleys. There are many abandoned mines to observer and some great overlooks to views of the south.

The overnight campers ought to be on pavement following this trail by about 1:00 PM depending on how late a start we get and how long we linger for Sunday's lunch.

My cell phone number is nine five one 840 and 8611 if anyone needs to call.

Edited 1st post with more details.  Both days:  easy, moderate, to as difficult as you want to make the trails, otherwise stock friendly Cheesy

Changed up the camp to make it different then last year but you can always ride up alamo mt and camp at twin pines if you don't feel like heading back to the 5 & frazier park.

aye, it would be good to see every one again. I'm going to tentatively say we'll be there, but no guarantees. I'll even bust my balls trying to get my sammi working as a day in HV would be a good test run.

I am a possible since this is in my backyard. I have test the new setup anyhow. Saturday only have to work Sunday, unless the birds don't want to play right on Friday.

Chris let me know I can lend a wrench since you are close. Also have access to base and lifts with tools etc..

Thanks Chris, I don't think it's going to be practicle for me to get the sammi done safely, I'd hate to run into problems on the trail and make everyone one else wait for me. some other day! (oh no, more 4x4 trips, what a shame) I'd rather take my time and get it done right.

I need to take out the rear 3-rd member and take it to a diff shop to find out what's wrong with it.

I need a longer brakeline in the rear before I can go play.  In additional I have a broken EVAP line.  So the check engine light is on.

It's going to be hot out there so bring plenty of water and keep an eye on the campfire if you have one.

Hopefully I will make the trip next month.
