From May 23, 2009 in the Stoddard Valley:

http://www.rubiconscat.com/Stoddard/HDR09/Rollmovie.html

The terrain doesn't even look that bad but the Jeep just lost a bit of traction and started backwards a bit and then all hell broke loose. The thing rolls over and over and over again. Everyone went to the hospital and checked out alright according to the web site.

Yeah, that's good example of how fast it can happen. I've been upside down offroading (Baja Bug), and I can attest, it will happen in an instant and when least expected (terrain-wise).
All the vehicles in th vid were climbing that hill in WAY to tight of succession and should have been spaced further. Fortunately noone was follwing this jeep as closely as the preceding vehicles.
All it took for this Jeep was:
1. A little downhill (backward) momentum.
2. A depression for the rear driver-side (downslope) tire to fall into.
3. The hard breaking that shifted the COG to the rear and took weight off the front tires (which were locked up), allowing them to begin a side-slip down the fall line.
All in less that 2-1/2 seconds.

It looked odd that this guy was losing traction so easy with his front tires. Looked like he had the front tires locks and not enough air out but even then I was amazed at how easy this all went south and downhill so fast. We've been over tougher climbs then that so yeah, be really careful.

wow, that looked bad.  I can't believe the guy put the Jeep in reverse and went back that fast.

I am really worried about testing my samurai this weekend now... Huh
