Hi everyone,

This is my first posting but not my first visit to the site.  i actually had an acct when the old site was up some time ago.

Reason for my post, is first of all has anyone's 05 hit 100k yet?? if so hows it running and have you had any major work done to it. I cant complain about mine, I've had to take it into the dealer a few times but luckily all the repairs were under warranty  Smiley  i do the regular oil changes myself but i have to change the spark plugs but i think according to owners im good till 100k (need to change them) Also what i'm really worried about is the tranny fluid, from what i hear from mom and pop mechanics is that it need to be taken into the dealer for that...but after how many miles?? Also where can i get it lubed or how can i do it myself i hear all this squeaking every now and then...and i say to myself hey my x is not that old. sorry if its a little confusing its my first post. thanks!

Hello and welcome. I don't have any answers for you, but I'm sure someone will chime in soon with them.

I believe its also time to change your timing belt, CHANGE IT!!! There is a post here (onewaysoldier: X died on the freeway last night - broken timing belt?) so change it! its worth the money. check your owner’s manual. I have 150,000 miles and mine and still running strong.

2005 = 2nd Gen = no timing belt worries.  It has a timing chain. Smiley

lol, thanks Chad.  I learned my lesson.  I've down two timing belts for friends since my broke and cost over $2500 in engine work.

I bought a 2005 Xterra S 4x4 in December of last year, with 109,000 miles on it.  Since then I have put about 4,000 miles on it, and the X runs great.  I have looked up high mileage posts both here and on the newx.org, and found that changing fluids seems to be the most proactive routine people perform.  I just changed the motor oil (to Amsoil, with a new Amsoil filter), and it actually looked pretty good coming out.

The only concern that I have is that when first started and cold, the engine makes a swish/swish noise, which coincidentally goes away when I go off roading, which leads me to believe it is the serpentine belt.  Maybe when it gets a bit of dirt on the belt and pulleys, they grip better and stop "whining."   Cheesy

Good luck, and we hope to see you post more here at SCCX.
