Hey all,
Look’s like I’m gonna have a custom spring pack made from a local shop www.nationalsprings.com I have a question about what “ride height” to provide them.  I was running the SLR 3” lift (2 ½” from the 3-pack AAL and ½” from the 1” shackle).  So I was approximately 3” above “stock” height.  Does anyone know the measurement of the stock height?  Example – if the stock springs gave me a ride height of, say, 2” then I would need to have a spring pack made that would give me a lift of 4 ½” to get back to a 3” lift – correct Huh  Or have the adult beverages completed fried the few remaining cells floating around in my head Roll Eyes

Also if I’m gonna have a pack made specifically for my rear axle weight would I still run the 20% stiffer shocks or are the two unrelated?  I don’t run a rear sway bar.

Any input would be appreciated.
Hope to see you out on the trail soon.  And with new springs, 4 shocks and rebuilt SLR steering maybe I won’t have to always run in the back of the pack suck’n everyone’s dust  Cool

Hey Tom,

Just remember that lift isn't necessarily suspension.  If you go for lift to counter for loaded weight, the new pack will sag.  That's the battle I first fought.

A good suspension is designed to carry the weight at the height you desire, while functioning well (i.e., reasonable ride, flexing, etc.).

I know National Spring gave you a hose job on the quote.  Maybe head up to Santa Ana and check out Deaver?  Also, Alcan in Colorado kicks ass; their products are good as is their service.  While you will have to pay shipping, it would still be less than what Nat. Spring quoted.

If you need to rebuild your packs in the short term, we have the technology.

I can smell a driveway 12-pack in your future.

I can second the Deaver nod. They're great. I had even had them re-arch my springs a little lower; no charge either! Had them ready the next day. Local too, saves on shipping.

Go Deaver or Go Home!

We're rollin' with Deaver also and I have nothing but great things to say about these springpacks.

We wrote down all the items that we take with us on an extended run (tools, equipment, gear, guns/ammo, food, liquids, human/animal weight) and calculated all the poundage we would roll with including tongue weight of our trailer.

Then added the weight of the X (fully Shrocked) to that.

So, when we're cruisin' around town, our X looks like the butt is a little high. But, when fully loaded and ready for the trail (which is what we built the X for), we are just right with no sag. Even with a trailer!

And speaking of sway bars...we threw front and rear in the trash the day we bought the X. Ya get used to it after a couple days.

Quinn, I have yet to meet you and see your rig. You live just a few miles south of me. We should hook up for lunch some time. Give a ring when you have time 697-9883. My resolution this year is to accompany a few trail rides
