Looking for some pointers for removing and replacing the TB. I am looking for maybe a bobby write up or lessons learned like what we learned from the diff drop couple of weekends ago.

This is easy Chris. But jacking the front of the X is highly recommended so when you're cranking the TB upgrade, you're not cranking the whole weight upfront... so raise the front and let the front suspension droop. Your arm muscles and elbow joints will thank you... unless you eat spinach before-hand and pull a Popeye on your X.

It's as simple as loosening the locking nut (located in the middle crossmember), crank down the TB adjuster until it's all the way down, then by that time, everything should be loose. Inspect your TB for wear, missing teeth, etc. Clean the insertion point, grease if you must, crank it up and tighten the locking nut.

It's like a combination of cranking and re-indexing your TB. Let me see if I can find the link... Brian sent it a while back...

hmm sounds easy.   I guess when you have the adjuster all the way down you just remove the old bars? Is there a way to tell what is the left and right bar?..  I also like spinach and as  a matter of fact I am a sailor.

As far as I know, the TB's are identical and can be either left or right???
I like spinach too... but I like Wimpy's Burger better! Haha!

Oh BTW, make sure you paint it "yellow" first.  Cheesy

the Left bar looks the same as the right bar.  I don't recomment using the left bar on the right and the right bar on the left.

Check the end of the bars for marking.  The sway away i had were marked L and R.

you know someone was looking at my X this morning and said I should paint the brakes yellow. Might do that to the TB as well.

You should!

Though I painted my calipers and drum housing red... and my Calmini IAB... and my rear diff housing.. to match my Energy Suspension bushings... gotta diversify and mix things up a bit! haha!

X2 what Spencer said.  Once torsion bars are installed and used, they take a directional set.  If you change their orientation, they'll fail.  Make sure they go in as they had been installed in Spencer's truck.

Three quick things:

Remember that when you're pulling these things apart and you experience resistance, remember it's fitting together like one of those finger toys where you can't remove your fingers unless they are straight and in line.  If you've got the bar positioned either up or down, it'll put a load on the splines making it more difficult to remove.

Before removing the old bars, measure how much spline is sticking out from the anchor.  Compare length of splines from stock TB to replacement TB.  This way, if the replacement is tough to get in there, you'll have an idea of when it's seated fully.

Also, put some anti sieze on the splines.
