Ok so I saw this web page which basically TELLS you how to build it, what material you need, and I decided "why not".  Here's the link to that page for those who are curious:  http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/RockSliderZ.shtml

Step 1: design it, measure it, buy the material

Step 2:  start the cutting and welding!

One thing I would recommend for anyone else trying to build them is to use 1/8" thick steel instead of the 3/16".  It's just too beefy.  Also, after mounting it, it seems like it sits a little too close to  the body than I wanted, so I would also recommend making the lenght that it sticks out 14.25" versus the 13.25" that I built it to.  Gives you a better footing getting in for the family.  And it still won't got past the tires.

Congrats dude.  Fabbing your own gear is the way to go.  Especially in the tough economic times.

nice. It doesnt look to close to me. Although I might have gone with the tappered butt weld if I could weld at home. It hides the bead in the taper while providing the needed penetration. But man nice job you will like the first time you do a nice trail and drag the chassis.

Yeah, I think I should've tapered the back end as well.  And it's definitely sitting a little to close to the body.  And instead of 68" for the outer bar, go with 66" to match the inside bar which sits right smack in the middle of the factory body seam welds.  1 day later and I absolutely love them.  Maybe I'll fab up a second set with the minor nistakes corrected and sell this one...
